Self Publishing Book Marketing – Amazon Extreme

The Amazon Extreme Package is available for all authors, regardless of where their book was published

Save 25% on 3 amazing marketing tactics centered around Amazon.com

(plus receive a free copy of the bestselling book Sell Your Book on Amazon)

__________________________

1. Add a Kindle edition of your book to Amazon’s Kindle Store.

In order to demonstrate the benefits of the Amazon Kindle Submission service, you must first know what the Amazon Kindle is.

The Amazon Kindle is a revolutionary wireless reading device that allows its owner to instantly download books and newspapers. Only books that have been submitted to the Amazon Kindle via the required process and in the required format are available for Kindle readers to purchase and enjoy. Kindle editions of books appear on Amazon and in Amazon search listings just like any other format (such as a hardback edition).

There are several benefits to having your book available on Amazon Kindle.

1. The Amazon Kindle edition will appear in the search results, along with any other formats of your book (such as your paperback and/or hardback editions). This results in an increase of exposure for your book’s cover, which increases the chances of browsers clicking on your cover image, and coming that much closer to becoming a buyer.

2. Sales through the Amazon Kindle are not split with Outskirts Press. Just like with our hardcopy paperback and hardback books, we pay 100% author profits, and sales through the Kindle are ALL profit.

Of course, Amazon will still take their share, as they always do, but your profit will be directly deposited into your checking account by Amazon, without any involvement by (or portion for) Outskirts Press. In other words, your Kindle sales are YOUR Kindle sales.

3. Amazon customers and readers are growing every day. While the Kindle is a unique and revolutionary device designed to make reading more convenient, the majority of Amazon customers love actual BOOKS. A Kindle sale is an inexpensive way to offer your book to a potential reader; if they like it, they are more likely to purchase the paperback or hardback edition, too.

4. While all books are ideal for the Kindle, Kindle readers LOVE fiction.  If you are a fiction author looking for a way to “level the marketing playing field” with non-fiction, the Kindle is the answer!  There have been weeks and months in a row when the bestselling Outskirts Press books on Amazon have been Kindle editions of fiction books!

Here’s how the process works:

  1. Order the Amazon Kindle edition now by adding it to your shopping cart.  This can be purchased a-la-carte or with the Amazon Extreme package.
  2. Our Marketing Department will contact you via email and send you the necessary submission form.  Since your Kindle sales are directly deposited to your bank by Amazon, providing Amazon with the means to make that deposit is a requirement of submission.
  3. Once you have completed that form, send it back to us.
  4. That’s it! We’ll take care of the rest. Typically within 4 weeks, your Kindle edition will be online through Amazon.

How does pricing and commission work?

Option 1: Amazon pays 35% and the Kindle price can be whatever you want

Option 2: Amazon pays 70% but the Kindle price must be set between $2.99 and $9.99; and you must live in the United States

__________________________

2. Add your book to Amazon Search Inside the Book

Do you feel that your book (which is available either exclusively or primarily online) isn’t reaching your target audience? Have you ever heard anyone say that it’s hard to make the decision to buy a book without taking a sneak peek and thumbing through the pages? Do you wonder why some books sell very well online while yours doesn’t? Well, Outskirts Press has the perfect solution!

Our Amazon Search Inside the Book marketing option (available to order a-la-carte or with the Amazon Extreme package) will allow you to take advantage of Amazon’s online equivalent to browsing a bookstore. Books that participate in this program feature a “Look Inside” icon over their Amazon cover image, which invites potential customers to electronically “flip” through a small section of the book. This increases the level of confidence a customer has in your book – most likely leading up to a higher volume of book sales. According to Amazon, books participating in this program enjoy significant sales improvement, on average, over books that do not.

When you participate in the Amazon Search Inside the Book program, Amazon digitally catalogs the text of your book – which may result in more accurate and targeted search results and recommendations. Ultimately, the more buyers who are exposed to your book, the greater the likelihood that you will sell more copies. Can you imagine the success you’ll have?

__________________________

3. Add tags and your top 10 keywords to Amazon’s search engine

The optional Amazon Keyword Search Submission service can help your book appear higher in the Amazon search rankings for applicable keywords.

Customers who browse for new books on Amazon typically do not search by title or author. They search by keywords or phrases: subject-specific words that describe their interest. One goal in book marketing is to do whatever is possible to improve a book’s search results ranking for applicable keywords so that your book appears higher in the search results on Amazon.

The Amazon Keyword Submission option can help. Participating books are “tagged” with applicable terms and keywords. This encourages other visitors to your page to “tag” your book with the same keywords and phrases, which can give more “weight” to those terms in Amazon’s search results.

This option is available to order a-la-carte or with the Amazon Extreme package.

__________________________

FREE BONUS:

Receive a free paperback copy of SELL YOUR BOOK ON AMAZON, Outskirts Press CEO Brent Sampson’s bestselling book, featuring top-secret tips guaranteed to increase your Amazon sales. The steps and tactics outlined in this book are the very same marketing efforts Sampson follows for his own book.

Among the tactics and steps suggested in the book are: participating in the Search Inside Program and adding keyword search submissions. You will notice that both of these steps are already included with this purchase of the Amazon Extreme Marketing package.

But there is so much more, like Listmania, Amazon Guides, Amapedia, Amazon Blogs, AmazonConnect, and much more. If you are not already proficient in Amazon listing enhancement, this book is a must-buy. And it’s free with the Amazon Extreme package.

Self Publishing Book Marketing – Book Blast

Save 25% on 5 powerful marketing services that can blast your book into the stratosphere!

Introducing the BOOK BLAST Marketing Package, available exclusively for select Outskirts Press authors.

We’ve taken 5 of our most popular marketing services and packaged them together with a 25% savings!  Now with one easy order you can save money and get your book promotion off to an explosive start!

 1. Custom Press Release The custom, professionally-written press release combines information solicited from the author with the professional expertise of our PR writer for a unique, custom release that is focused on the benefits of your book. As the author, you will receive a copy for your records or to further refine and then our News Wire distribution kicks in.

Through distribution, your custom press release is:

  • electronically distributed to a database of approximately 100,000 media contacts, newsrooms, industry analysts, and freelance writers who receive daily email listings of press releases which match their filter criteria. In the publishing category these include newspapers (Wall St. Journal, New York Times, USA Today, etc.), magazines (Foreword, Publisher’s Weekly, etc.), and applicable websites and ezines.
  • posted to syndicated news feeds on other web sites through our XML/RSS news feed. Adding this news feed increases exposure to your press release.
  • optimized for search engines indexing. Search engines regularly spider index our press releases.

2. PR Publicist CampaignSometimes, electronic distribution just isn’t enough, even when the distribution network includes all the perks of our News Wire Distribution above. With the PR Publicist Campaign, a publicist will handle further press release distribution of your custom-written press release with additional, targeted distribution and phone call follow-up to key leads. We will e-mail your custom release directly to the personal email in-boxes of book reviewers and editors in print, radio, television, trades, E-zines, syndicates, and wires locally, regionally and nationwide. This additional distribution circuit is exclusively available through the PR Publicist Campaign, and consists of over 21,000 national media contacts. Applicable trade publications selected for your subject are included free of charge. Editors have opted-in and given us appropriate addresses to e-mail the respective releases to.

Once your release is distribution throughout the circuit, we will place phone calls to follow-up on your single release with key editors, beat writers, and reviewers to push your press release. This increases the probability of coverage/interest. These are not cold calls. The editors and writers receiving your press release and our phone calls have agreed to receive applicable press releases and therefore value the information and the follow-up phone call, which we perform for you.

Then, we will send you every single media lead that results from your publicist campaign. Usually they are in the form of a review copy request but may also be interview requests. The PR Publicist will also send you a recommended cover letter to use when following-up on each lead. You may use it exactly, or alter it as necessary, depending upon each lead.

BONUS: For your convenience, we will register you with a clipping service to keep track of all the promotion you receive from your Book Blast Package. Every time your book title is mentioned anywhere on the Internet, you will receive up-to-the minute email notification. This clipping service lasts for as long as you want.

3. 60 Second Book Video Trailer and Digital Viral DistributionAre you ready to take your book marketing efforts into the 21st Century? Be among the first authors anywhere to use online video marketing. The Book Video Trailer is like a movie trailer for your book. It’s cool, it’s hip, it’s NOW!

  • Music, text, video – we handle the entire production for you
  • You take a look at the first version and make revisions
  • We modify the video once to your specs for the final version
  • Final length is 1 minute for optimal online video sharing
  • We send you the 6mb video file via email
  • Now you have a Book Video to use in any/all of your marketing efforts, however you want

But wait! There’s more! We also upload your video to popular social networking websites, perfect for enhancing your search engine optimization on keyword searches for your name and book title. Plus, successful viral marketing efforts begin at all the sites where we will distribute your video, including:

  • YouTube
  • Google Video
  • Yahoo Video
  • AOL Video
  • MySpace
  • Daily Motion
  • Revver
  • LiveVideo
  • Metacafe
  • and more

BONUS: Your video will be embedded into your Outskirts Press author webpage for you, so visitors to your Outskirts Press webpage will be able to watch your book video online from the new Media Center section of your author webpage.

Press play to see a sample of a recent book video trailer:

4. Book Review SubmissionWe have identified 10 book reviewers who, in our experience, have all demonstrated a tendency in the past to review alternatively published and self-published books. With the Book Review Submission Service, included in the Book Blast Marketing Package, we will administer the submission of your book to these ten book reviewers for you as an optional service. Included in the submission to these reviewers is everything the reviewers typically require to consider writing a review, like:

  • a professional cover letter
  • a professional press release
  • your sales sheet
  • a complimentary copy of your book for the reviewer to consider and keep

As always, remember that no one (including the author nor Outskirts Press) has any control over whether a book reviewer agrees to write a review, decides to share a review that is written, or what the review will say (positive or negative). Participation in the Book Review Submission service in no way implies that a review will be written or that a review will be positive. On the other hand, positive reviews on popular websites and blogs or within popular journals can improve sales and lead to positive word-of-mouth, which is a precursor to the viral publicity and “buzz” that all authors dream of.

5. Personal Marketing AssistantWith all these simultaneous promotional tactics going on (custom release, book video, book reviews, PR campaign), what’s a busy author to do to keep up with the marketing or follow-up that may result from a viral video, an amazing review, and a potential flurry of interview requests from the publicist campaign?Easy! The Personal Marketing Assistant can help you with more personal and specific marketing needs focusing solely on your unique book and “platform” as an author. You will get a 5 hour block of time which includes an initial 30 minute phone consultation and can include even more phone consultation time as you and your personal marketing assistant feel is warranted to successfully market your book. Here are just some of the many, many things the Personal Marketing Assistant can help you with:

  • PR Publicist Campaign lead follow-up
  • Suggesting advertising venues for your book and placing those ads for you
  • Calling bookstores in your area to pitch your book and/or arrange book signings
  • and much more

Four countries, four months, four book fairs. Is a Global Book Tour right for self-published authors?

2009 Global Book Fair Schedule Announced for Self-Publishing Authors

Regarded as the most important publishing event in the spring, The London Book Fair takes place April 20-22, 2009 at its new location, the East End near Docklands. Publishers from across Europe focus their efforts at this event on international sales & rights, including foreign acquisitions & translations.

The Book Expo of America (BEA) returns to the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City on May 28 -31, 2009. Although over 100,000 international attendees converge, the emphasis of this event is distinctly American, with American books, publishers, agents and buyers receiving the primary focus.

The Beijing International Book Fair, located in the heart of the Asian book business, returns to Beijing September 3-7, 2009 (after a temporary change-of-venue to Tianjin last year, due to the 2008 Olympic Games). China’s increased impact on the world marketplace draws buyers, editors, agents and other industry insiders to this important event to meet the expanding consumer demand for all book genres.

The Frankfurt Book Fair, taking place October 14-18, 2009, traditionally attracts nearly 10,000 publishing professionals and industry insiders. With over 50% more international publishers participating than at the BEA, foreign rights sales and distribution beyond the shores of America take center stage in Frankfurt.

Recognizing the premium costs associated with exhibiting self-published books independently at the world’s most influential publishing events, leading self-publishing company Outskirts Press has announced an affordable alternative for its authors, offering valuable exposure at all four leading 2009 book fair events in London, New York, Beijing and Frankfurt.

Selected Outskirts Press books will receive valuable high-traffic, face-out exposure on an exclusive shelf with other Outskirts Press titles. Event attendees will receive all the necessary contact information for both the author and the publisher, enabling further contact to be made during or after the event. To capitalize on the international spotlight, a representative will be on hand at each book fair to personally answer questions about the featured books. All inquiries Outskirts Press receives will be shared with the author.

“In spite of the costs involved with exhibiting, self-published and alternatively published authors continue to display their books at book events in increasing numbers,” states Kelly Schuknecht , Director of Author Support for Outskirts Press. “The practice of creating co-op stands is an expanding phenomenon since this opportunity offers unparalleled access to the world’s most important publishing events.

Space is limited for each of these events and available on a first-come, first served basis. Outskirts Press authors can participate in any of the events separately or they can save 25% when they book all four events at once with the Outskirts Press Global Book Tour package. For more information on all the valuable marketing options available with Outskirts Press, visit http://outskirtspress.com/marketing.php.

Beijing Book Fair for Self Publishing Writers

Welcome to Beijing!

Beijing, China is the center of the Asian book business. The Beijing Book Fair traditionally takes place the first weekend of September. Due to the Olympic Games, the 2008 Beijing Book fair actually took place in Tianjin, which is about 80 miles south of Beijing. Nevertheless, many attendees spent literally hours going through the Outskirts Press titles on display and cross referencing the books on the shelves with the listings in the catalogs that were handed out by the thousands to the buyers, editors, agents, and attendees of the shows.

No other country has experienced the increase that China has on the world marketplace, and the readership in China represents an enormous opportunity (and gap that needs to be filled) for translations and publishers seeking to feed the frenzy. There is surging consumer demand for all types of books.
