Take Action During National Library Month

April is National Library Month, and National Library Week is April 7-13. Let’s face it, if there’s one place we go to find out information about books, it’s our public library. The act of browsing is not a lost art; readers and book buyers do it regularly. As a writer, you probably do it yourself, and if you don’t, take this month as a symbol to start. Feel free to study the shelving arrangement, the genres, the popular nooks and crannies, the competition, and the various ways and means librarians “sell” their collections to the public. In fact, if you’re “caught” browsing in a library and the librarians find out you’re a local author, you’re likely to get hooked into offering an author reading or signing or other such public session. You know what that means? More book reviews and more book sales! Local libraries LOVE local authors!

Every year the American Library Association (ALA) holds a national book fair that attracts librarians from all levels of management, from all types of libraries, from all across the country. It serves as a meeting place for leadership, a place to learn, a place to network and as a forum to exchange ideas on the multitude of issues affecting libraries. And, most importantly, it serves as an avenue to introduce your book to this super-important marketplace.

Outskirts Press can handle all the details of representing your book at the ALA Book Fair this year if you reserve one of the limited spots before April 19th at https://outskirtspress.com/p/ala.

Published a children’s book? Eligible for Bologna? Don’t know? Find out!

Is your book right for Bologna?

Attending international book fairs personally is often cost-prohibitive for self-publishing writers when you factor in expenses such as airfare, hotel, food, and transportation. And those are just the costs of going international. Then there are the costs of the exhibit itself, like the exhibition fees, the exhibition stand, and the “giveaways” (often called “schwag.”)

But book fairs are also the place where self-published authors can “be discovered.” Outskirts Press helps its authors place their books at 5 international book fairs for a reasonable cost.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair is the world’s leading book fair focusing solely on children’s publishing with a focus on the sale of rights and international co-productions.  To increase your chances for success, your book must have full color illustrations inside the book to participate. Therefore, only our Pearl Full Color books are eligible.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair occurs in March in Italy and hosts over 1400 international exhibitors and may be instrumental in forging industry connections or negotiating agreements or licenses for your work.

When you order the Bologna Children’s Book Fair from the Marketing Options Screen of your Author’s Center your book will receive valuable, face-out exposure on an exclusive shelf with other Outskirts Press titles and a representative will be on-hand to personally answer questions about your book. Outskirts Press will provide the necessary copies of the book and all the necessary contact information for both the author and publisher, so interested parties can make further contact, during or after the fair. All inquiries Outskirts Press receives about your book will be forwarded directly to you for personal follow-up.

If you are a published Children’s book author with Outskirts Press and interested in exhibiting your book with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, you can register for this event conveniently from your author’s center Marketing Options screen. Space is limited and filled on a first-come, first served basis. Due to the specific requirements of Bologna, this event is not a part of our Global Book Tour package and must be registered for separately if you are interested.

The deadline for submitting your book to the book fair is Friday, January 11, 2013.

Self-Publishing Children’s Authors Can Get Noticed with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair

Self-published authors don’t necessarily have the budget or time to travel around the world to attend various book fairs. Then there are the costs of the exhibit itself, like the exhibition fees, the exhibition stand, and the “giveaways” (often called “freebies” or “schwag”). Typically, self-publishing authors would miss out on the chance to “be discovered”. However, with recent advances in technology, this is a worry of the past.

Outskirts Press offers authors an opportunity to have their book featured during various book fairs worldwide. One that’s rather popular with self-publishing authors of children’s books is the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair is the world’s leading book fair that only features children’s books. The primary focus of this event is to investigate the possibility of the sale of rights and international co-productions.  Historically, full-color books with illustrations are usually the most successful. Because of this, we only allow our Pearl Full Color books to participate.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair occurs in March in Italy and hosts over 1400 international exhibitors. If you’ve ever entertained the thought of forging industry connections or negotiating agreements or licenses for your work, this is an ideal opportunity for you.

Outskirts Press self-publishing children’s authors can register for this event conveniently from their Publishing Center. During the fair, your book will receive valuable, face-out exposure on an exclusive shelf with 4 other Outskirts Press titles and a representative will be on-hand to personally answer questions about your book. Outskirts Press will provide the necessary copies of the book and all the necessary contact information for both the author and publisher, so interested parties can make further contact, during or after the fair. All leads we receives for your book will be forwarded directly to you for personal follow-up.

Space is limited and filled on a first-come, first served basis. Due to the requirements of Bologna, this event is not a part of our Global Book Tour package and must be registered for separately if you are interested.
