Outskirts Press Congratulates Author Guido Roberto Deiro For His Recent Appearance on PBS

As the world slowly (hopefully) begins its recovery from an international pandemic that has forced millions of people to shelter for months, the self-publishing industry continues to flourish. Perhaps it is due to the combination of extra time, increased saving habits (which shot from approximately 5% to over 30% in the United States between the first and second quarter), and the proliferation of worldwide catastrophes and causes–which have ranged from an unprecedented virus outbreak to an unprecedented unification of people from all walks of life demanding the overdue resolution of racial inequality.  We are living in a time of big moments. And nothing cements into time big moments quite like big books.

Outskirts Press authors have always been able to secure amazing levels of exposure for their self-published books, whether it be a TNT-series starring Star Trek alum Chris Pine or an inspirational documentary based upon an inspiring woman’s autobiography/self-help book. And while we are sure to see a fair amount of books about COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter in the coming months (and we look forward to helping those authors with all of them), today we’ll shine the spotlight on a book that, while it may not be as culturally relevant, is still an amazing story in its own right. So much so, that Outskirts author Guido Roberto Deiro was recently interviewed for an American Masters documentary on Mae West, which aired two days ago on PBS.

The book that led to the interview, Mae West & The Count, takes you inside Mae’s relationship with the man who launched her career and stole her heart.

Set in the first half of the 20th Century, this is the heretofore untold story of the torrid romance, lust-filled five-year marriage, and entwined show business careers of the Vaudeville headliner “Deiro” and the “Queen of Camp” Mae West.

Unpublicized by mutual agreement, the improbable, humorous, and often heartbreaking, personal and professional relationship between the Italian nobleman, who rose to “rock-star” fame, and the Brooklyn-born fifth-grade dropout who became a show business legend and an icon of sexual freedom, is intimately and elegantly exposed in this volume.

About the author

Retired after successful careers in casino gaming, aviation, and real estate sales, Guido Roberto Deiro resides with his wife, Joan Marlene, at their estate Villa Kismet in the outskirts of Las Vegas, Nevada. The writing of Mae West & The Count – Love and Loss on the Vaudeville Stage came about because of an instruction given to the author by his father, Count Deiro, shortly before his father’s demise: “Never forget that I introduced and made popular the piano-accordion, and tell everyone, including someday your children, who I was and what I did with my life. And if Mae West ever says anything to you, I want you to listen to her…she could have been your mother.” The author hopes that the publication of this biographical novel meets his late father’s imperative.

Congratulations on your PBS interview, Guido. And for memorializing such a romantic yet complicated tale. We’re sure your father would be proud!

The Outskirts Press Self-Publishing Kit

Nearly all self-publishing companies offer writers an “incentive” to join their newsletter or mailing list. In most cases, this is the company’s own “Publishing Guide.”  These guides vary from sleek sales brochures to informative books covering the process of self-publishing (typically with that particular self-publishing company).

Other self-publishers offer “white papers” or “tip sheets” or “advice columns” focusing on specific topics or obstacles an author may face when self-publishing a book. While often more informative (at least about said topic or obstacle), these white papers are usually much shorter, and therefore of less perceived value.

A few self-publishing companies combine their publishing guide with a robust collection of white papers and tip sheets to create a treasure trove of helpful resources for writers. The guide typically markets the company and its offerings, perhaps sheds light on the self-publishing and book marketing processes, and shines a spotlight on a successful authors.  The white papers, advice columns, and tip sheets, on the other hand, identify core questions or issues facing many writers and offers suggestions or solutions to pave an author’s path toward publication and success.

New! Faster, Easier Book Ordering at Outskirts Press

At Outskirts Press, we are constantly working to improve the experience for our author-clients, whether it is with new services (like the recently launched AudioBook service), or new publishing packages (like our suite of One-Click bundles), or improvements to the website to make actions easier and more streamlined.

For example, this week, we are excited to announce that buying books from your Publishing Center is now easier and faster than ever before.  When it goes “live” this week, your page for ordering Author’s Copies will look a little different, and this blog post will help you identify all the improvements.

In the past, ordering Author Copies from your Publishing Center has been “split” between two separate pages, depending upon the number of copies you were ordering.  If you were ordering less than 100 copies, you would see the “main” ordering page, and select the format you wished to order, and enter the quantity.

Even if you wanted to order copies of both formats (paperback and hardback, for example), you would need to place your order for each format separately. Time consuming, and certainly not ideal.

What’s more, if you wanted to take advantage of bulk orders for higher author discounts, you would have to go to an entirely different page:

The discounts were great, but the process? Not so much.

This week, the new book ordering page will be uploaded to your Publishing Center to allow you to order multiple formats and receive your Author Discounts all at once.

If you only have one format, you will see this new page, which displays the cover of the book you are ordering, it’s format type/details, and the quantity discounts.  Black and white books still receive up to a 50% discount when ordering in bulk while full-color books still enjoy a discount of up to 35%!  Now you can enjoy these discounts all from the same page.

If you have two formats, you will see all the relevant information for each format, and you can place orders for both formats simultaneously:

To celebrate this exciting new improvement, please enjoy our popular FREE SHIPPING promotion throughout the month of September. Simply order 50 or more copies of any format and US Commercial shipping throughout the continental United States is FREE!

Stay tuned to this blog in the coming weeks and months for more announcements about other improvements coming to your Publishing Center.

The non-fiction, fiction, Christian, and spiritual One-Click packages have always included the Kindle e-book edition (and some of them include the Barnes & Noble NOOK, as well).  Now joining them with an included Amazon e-Book edition are the One-Click packages for Children, Cookbooks, and Memoirs.  You can browse and compare all eight of the available One-Click, all-inclusive publishing suites by clicking here.

What makes this announcement so exciting is the inclusion of the Amazon e-Book edition to our most popular package, the Ultimate Black and White, which already includes a bevy of options and add-ons; and now adds the most popular e-book publishing service, as well.
