Outskirts Press Self-Publishing Authors Represent at the 2017 EVVY Awards

Winners of the 2017 CIPA EVVY Awards were announced August 19 in Denver, and we couldn’t be prouder: Outskirts Press self-publishing authors took home a total of 15 impressive 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-place awards. Now in their 23rd year, the CIPA EVVY Awards are sponsored by the Colorado Independent Publishers Association (CIPA) and the CIPA Education and Literacy Foundation (ELF), and recognize the finest works of independent authors in dozens of book categories. Way to go, authors, for making a great showing in 2017!

Outskirts Press hand-selects only the highest quality books for nomination each year. In fact, we generally nominate only 2 to 5 percent of the books we publish in any given year so your EVVY wins represent an incredible showing in a year where we were able to send 47 nominees then 21 finalists to the judging committee. These winners will now be eligible to compete in the annual Outskirts Press Best Book of the Year Award — but more on that in a bit.

The Outskirts Press Best Book of the Year Award will be determined by the readers of SelfPublishingNews.com blog in an open, public vote. The voting will determine the most talented writer with the best author platform. The winner of the Outskirts Press Best Book of the Year Award will receive a $1,500 Grand Prize.

Outskirts Press Lends Support to the Colorado Book Awards in 2017

Outskirts Press is once again sponsoring the annual Colorado Book Awards celebrating the accomplishments of Colorado authors, illustrators, photographers and editors. Denver-based Outskirts Press has been helping authors worldwide successfully publish and market books since 2002 and is proud to be an ongoing part of the Colorado Book Awards.

The Colorado Center for the Book, the program department of the Colorado Humanities, runs the Colorado Book Awards, which is presented annually by Colorado Humanities & Center for the Book. The awards were launched in 1991 with just four categories of awards to recognize authors, illustrators, editors and publishers, and have since expanded to 14 literary categories: Anthology, Biography, Children’s Literature, Creative Nonfiction, General Fiction, General Nonfiction, Genre Fiction, History, Juvenile Literature, Literary Fiction, Mystery, Poetry, Thriller, and Young Adult Literature.

Many of Colorado’s most prominent authors have been recognized with awards, including David Milofsky, John Fielder, Tom Noel, Stephanie Kane and Linda Hogan, among others. Judging generally occurs in April, and the awards are presented at a ceremony in Parker, Colorado, in late spring.

Visit http://www.coloradohumanities.org for more information about the Colorado Book Awards.

Are you a non-Coloradan but interested in other book award opportunities? Visit Outskirts Press to learn more about how book awards can help move your book to new levels of success, or to get your book submitted.

Merry Christmas, Outskirts Press Authors!

Today, we open those gifts we’ve been eyeing under the tree for weeks, and we watch our loved ones open the gifts we have been putting together for equally as long, if not longer. But the gift-giving season doesn’t end today, or even when the ball drops in Times Square to mark the beginning of a new year. It’s true, there’s something special about Christmas and the other holidays clustered around the 25th of December, but there’s also something special about you and what you do, and you get to carry that with you forever. Your generosity of spirit has helped make Outskirts Press an industry leader, a standout success among the ranks of other possibilities you might have chosen but didn’t, and we want to honor you and that choice.

Today is special because you’re in it, and because you’re in our lives. Yes, we want to wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, a Joyous Kwanzaa, and Reason’s Greetings to those who mark Newtonmas. We truly hope and wish that the holiday season will be rich with happiness and healing after a long year in the trenches. The fact that you have entrusted us with your books, your stories, and your friendship is a constant blessing and a constant challenge to raise the bar, improve our services, and do our very best to transform your vision into reality. Let’s put it this way: We wouldn’t have won a #1 ranking from Top Consumer Reviews without you!

You, our authors, are at the heart of what we do and who we are at Outskirts Press. You are, like the books you write, authors and avatars of a beautiful, colorful, diverse, and exciting future which we can’t wait to inhabit. And we hope that, as we progress through the last days of 2016, that you continue to choose us as your partners in the self-publishing process.

thankyou

2016 has, in point of fact, been a stellar year for our authors! Whether we’re talking about Amazon bestsellers like Mirtha Michelle Castro Mármol’s Letters, To The Men I Have Loved and Elusive Loves; Amores Esquivos or books successfully adapted for film and television like Landria Onkka’s The Rooftop Christmas Tree, whimsical illustrated children’s picture books like Super Mia and the Good Luck Duo – Rescued is the New Black by Marie-Yolaine Williams or works of serious nonfiction like Donald Deignan’s The Shadow of Sacrifice: The True Story of a Pearl Harbor Survivor and his Nephew and Namesake, our authors never cease to amaze us and make us proud to be your publishing company. And that’s just to name a few! Our bookstore is packed with incredible options for the discerning reader.

This Christmas, we hope you’ll take a moment or two to celebrate yourself, your hard work, and the labor of so many other fellow authors who have come together to be published through Outskirts Press. So shake out that tinsel and rip open those presents–and take a moment to join us in pondering all the good things that the Outskirts Press community has accomplished in 2016. We’re proud of you.
