Author Poll: Writer Pat Overton wants your help with her cover.

Pat Overton is self-publishing a book with Outskirts Press. And she wants your help deciding her book cover.

Book Summary

“He was with me. He hadn’t left. We were one and always would be…” On a wintry night in January, Ray Overton passed suddenly from lack of oxygen to the brain. What happened next was difficult for his wife, Pat, to grasp. While she was journaling one night, her deceased husband began to speak to her. At first she thought Ray’s voice might be a product of grief, wishful thinking, or imagination—but subsequent events would prove her wrong… Throughout the course of the following year and beyond, Ray guided Pat through the grief process, confirming her belief that consciousness does indeed survive death. In Still Beside You, Pat offers hope to others, validating that our deceased loved ones are not “lost” to us. They continue to exist, just in another form, in another—heavenly—place.

About the Author

Patricia Overton is a retired professional educator, a Reiki master/teacher, and a lecturer on life after death. Outskirts Press Presents David D. Bernstein, author of ”Spirral” The CORT Chronicles Book 2

Author David D. Bernstein is taking his latest book, “Spirral” The CORT Chronicles Book 2 on tour – a Virtual Book Tour, that is, with Outskirts Press! Technology has created a wide variety of ways to reach audiences all over the world. All it takes is a little thinking outside the box, and nowadays you can market a self-published book in a variety of affordable and impactful ways. Virtual book tours, for example, are a great way to connect with readers from all corners of the globe, all from the comfort of your own home. Join David D. Bernstein and “Spirral” The CORT Chronicles Book 2 as they appear in features and interviews (such as the one below) in the weeks and months ahead!

Luckily for us, David D. Bernstein was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of “Spirral” The CORT Chronicles Book 2.

OP: Tell us a little bit about “Spirral” The CORT Chronicles Book 2. What is it about?

David:  This book is the second part of trilogy called The CORT Chronicles. A civil war rages on, and a world is about to be fully fall into deep darkness. Andy, John, Wendy, and Zack must figure out how to save everything they love, but before they win the battle against a powerful corporation named CORT, they must win the battles within. Our heroes must travel through this dangerous world and destroy a new powerful robot named Spirral who is causing death and destruction everywhere. The children are guided by powerful sages and given tools to survive. They soon discover that only teamwork, human connection, and emotions can truly triumph over evil.

OP: Why did you decide to write this story?

David: I decided to write this book to send a powerful message to our children who are suffering more then ever these days. They have been kept away from human connection to their school friends and teachers. They have been kept away from live learning by powerful organizations like teacher unions and others. Teachers are wonderful and want all the best for their students, but these leaders of the unions only care about profit and themselves. I hope this book will teach our kids and their parents that they can do anything they put their minds to. I hope this book also gives the readers a chance to escape the stress and problems they face daily. It sends a powerful message that anything is possible and even one person can make a huge difference in their lives and in others.

OP: How did you get your book published?

David: I self-published this book with Outskirts Press. They are a wonderful company that I have published five books with and plan to publish more in the future. The team that was assigned to me gave their full support as I went through the publishing process.

OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?

David: I believe that many people will be interested in this book. It sends a powerful message not only to our children but to the adults in this world as well. It shows that human emotions, teamwork, and connection to the natural world can triumph over evil. I recommend this book is for anyone who is ten to one hundred since it does have some mature subject matter that is not appropriate for younger children.

OP: What is special about your book?

David: I believe that each book that comes out is special in its own way. Books create new worlds to explore and new characters to love. In this case if I were to share what makes “Spirral” special it is probably the strong message it teaches, the characters it brings to life and the struggles and adventures that happen with our heroes. The action-packed scenes and the wonderful illustrations also make this book special.

OP: What differentiates it from other books in the same category?

David: Every book is different from another book because each book is written with a different voice, a different point of view and a different vision.

OP: Have you published any other books, and do you plan to publish more?

David: Other books I published are: “Voices of the Heart” this is a collection of my poetry from high school to college and unfortunately is out of print, but I do plan to bring it back soon. Two picture books “The Enchanted Rope” and “Peanut.” They both deal with hard issues in life. One deals with the death of a loved one and how to connect to them and the other book deals with divorce and obsession and how to overcome those things. My latest books “Spirral” and “Rebirth” are part of my trilogy. The first book in this trilogy named “The Portal” won a CIPA EVVY Merit award in Juvenile Fiction in 2018. I do have plans to publish more books in the near future.

OP: How can someone learn more about your book or purchase it?

David: Both my picture books and the Trilogy are available on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, Outskirts Press Bookstore and other online bookstores. “The Portal” is also available in as an audio book that you can find on Apple iTunes.

OP: Thanks for your time, David! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!

OP: Tell us a little bit about Rebirth: The CORT Chronicles Book 3. What is it about?

David: Over one hundred years in the future, eleven-year-old Andy and his brother Zack come home to 2009, hoping to live normal lives. Yet something has gone wrong, they get back to a terrifying version of their hometown. In this edition strange new technologies have taken over and an underground city is about to reborn. OP: Why did you decide to write this story?

David: I wrote this book to help people escape from the hard life and stress they are going through for the last one and half years, but especially with the Covid-19 epidemic. This virus continues to change lives forever. Yet, there is still hope at the end of this dark tunnel. This book looks at a world that is changing rapidly and going into the light. The Uninformed Voter

by Robert Levine

(4.5 Stars – 24 Customer Reviews)

Price: $21.95

Robert Levine’s “The Uninformed Voter.” Can Uninformed Voters be charged with Democracy’s decline? If voters do not have the real knowledge about the candidates, then the cycle of dysfunctional and inefficient government continues. The evidence is shocking and shows incompetent and corrupt politicians consistently elected to office. This is more than just a history lesson. The author also evaluates recommendations by political scientists and philosophers about how to improve democracy. Citizens should realize that their vote is their voice of We the People. Self-Publishing Author Rick Taylor Discusses Ballad of the Blacksmith’s Son

Author Rick Taylor is taking his latest book, Ballad of the Blacksmith’s Son on tour – a Virtual Book Tour, that is, with Outskirts Press! Join Rick Taylor and Ballad of the Blacksmith’s Son as they appear in features and interviews (such as the one below) in the weeks and months ahead!

Luckily for us, Rick Taylor was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of Ballad of the Blacksmith’s Son.

OP: Tell us a little bit about Ballad of the Blacksmith’s Son. What is it about?

Rick Taylor: It is about Viking/Slav/Finn teens coming of age as fledging Russia faces Turk invasion. They crash head long into girls, Christianity, Russian winter, and unnatural wolf pack trying to prevent them from reaching their king.

OP: Why did you decide to write this story?

Rick Taylor: It is based on an idea I had while training soldiers and teaching high school. It matured from a short story to a book.

OP: How did you get your book published?

Rick Taylor: I got impatient with the agent/publisher-hunting rituals, especially after Covid-19 hit. I self-published through Outskirts Press.

OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?

Rick Taylor: It has a touch of historical fiction and a dose of Christianity, but primarily it is an adventure. I am finding both teens and adults enjoy it and want to see the sequel.

OP: What is special about your book?

Rick Taylor: Everyone knows that the Vikings went West, but few are writing about what they did in the East. It has Viking heritage expressing itself in Russia. It reflects ideas from several Christian and secular authors. It draws off what I learned about teens during my 14 years as a teacher.

OP: What differentiates it from other books in the same category?

Rick Taylor: This is a coming-of-age adventure first, with faith as part of the challenge. Though some will classify this as a “Christian” book, there are no pat “faith” answers. Heroes fail, people die, questions remain unanswered. God’s plan may not save the day the way they want. I am trying to fill a gap between secular adventure books like the Cornwall Saxon Series and the ethereal imagery of a Ted Dekker story.

OP: Have you published any other books?

Rick Taylor: I have not.

OP: Do you plan to publish more?

Rick Taylor: Yes, the sequel is halfway done. (Lament of the Blacksmith’s Son) There is also a short story anthology in the works.

OP: Thanks for your time, Rick Taylor! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Rick Taylor is a retired soldier and high school teacher. He has written for regional and national magazines and penned a column for the local newspaper. He and his wife, Patricia, live near the Puget Sound, where they cruise and race their sailboat.
