Here is one of the bestselling authors for May 2011:

Cancer – It’s a Good Thing I Got It ! by David A. Koop

The Life Story of a Very Lucky Man

David Koop had it all—a storied business career, beautiful son, and prospects as far as the eye could see. Then a surprise cancer diagnosis turned his life upside down. It was osteo sarcoma—a form of bone cancer—and it was growing on his spine. Doctors told him to get his affairs in order. More than three years later, Koop continues to beat the odds. Cancer: It’s a Good Thing I Got It! is his eye-opening account of a remarkable journey through hospitals, treatments, friendships and emotions as he struggles to maintain a positive attitude and will to live. In this frank and uncensored look at one man’s battle with cancer, Koop reflects on his life before and after the diagnosis. The surprising conclusion will leave you awed at the strength of the human spirit: far from a death sentence, the medical woes unleash a powerful self-assessment that leads Koop to a whole new sense of purpose—and the love he has sought all his life.

We were lucky enough for David to stop by and answer a few questions about his book and the Outskirts Press publishing experience.

OP: What made you decide that self-publishing would be the best way to publish your book?

“When I decided to write a book I did a lot of research. I was very shocked to find out how little of the book price ends up in the pocket of the Author who actually wrote the book. As a key note speaker I have a marketing platform in place. Self-Publishing was the only way to go for me, not only from a monetary perspective but also in regards to control of the content as well.”

OP: Why did you decide to publish with Outskirts Press?

“I researched the top self-publishing companies and I was impressed by the way Outskirts Press does business. The team approach, the experience that they bring to the table and the actual financial division provides the Author what they need in the way of services at a very reasonable cost.”

OP: Can you share a bit about your book promotion strategy?

“We started marketing this book, Cancer It’s a Good Thing I Got It The Life Story of a Very Lucky Man about three months ahead of our estimated publication date. I shared a little of the book in my keynote speeches and in the workshops that my wife and I offer. At the end of each we made the yet to be published book for sale at a 20% early order price. At thirty days out we sent press release to the local media and book some talk radio spots and received notices in the newspapers in the area. At two weeks out from the launch we did a full-blown Press Release with our publicist, Dan Janal and the story of our book release celebration was picked up by over 52,000 media sites! Our next step is a joint venture partnership we are working on with a couple dozen Internet companies. The goal of which is to push the book onto Amazon’s bestseller list.”

OP: Describe your book in 140 characters or less.

Personal memoir, an uncensored look at life before and after a Cancer battle with surprising conclusion leaving you with a new life purpose.”

OP: How long did it take you to write your book?

“Funny you should ask, I thought I could pound it out in three or four months. Have you heard that joke, “If you want to hear God laugh tell him your plans” Well he was laughing for two years while I struggled to complete my book.”

OP: Are you planning to publish any other books?

“Yes I am working on two other books now in between speaking and signings for my current book.”

Self-Publishing Bestseller Spotlight: Going Green Using Diatomaceous Earth How-To Tips by Tui Rose RN

Either way, learning that you have sold enough books to earn recognition is a surprising achievement and one to be very proud of.

Here at Outskirts Press, we love to spotlight our bestsellers because they reveal the possibilities available to self-publishing authors, provided they implement a strong book promotion strategy, including (but not limited to) investing money in various services such as:

Here is one of the bestselling authors for April 2011:

Going Green Using Diatomaceous Earth How-To Tips
by Tui Rose RN

An easy guide book using a safer alternative, natural silica mineral, food grade insecticide.

The first and ONLY informative guide for users of Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE)!

For better health, forget harmful chemicals by using instead Mother Nature’s gift, a fossilized algae mineral powder for a wide variety of purposes.

Learn 101 ways to use DE as a home and garden insecticide; animal feed additive for anti-clumping and anti-parasitic; grain, nut and seed preserver; soil fertilizer and amender; deodorizer for kitty litter, refrigerator, shoes, vacuum bags, and barn manures; bird de-licer, kitchen cleaner scratch-free soft scrub, metal polisher; relieve itchy bug bites, and dry up oil leaks and spills and much more….

_____________________________________________________________________

About the Author:

Tui Rose RN., as a concerned mother and registered nurse interested in healthy living, family and pet health, and environmental safety, could not find a book anywhere in the USA or western world on the far safer alternative Diatomaceous Earth(DE) for consumer usage as an alternative to toxic chemical insecticides. So Tui felt compelled to write a book herself on this topic to fill the literary void. What pleasantly surprised Tui was just how multi-faceted DE happens to be with its many uses other than as a safer natural insecticide. As Tui rubbed the powder dry between her fingers over a tarnished silver spoon, the black film almost instantly lifted to reveal a shine faster than any commercial silver polish could muster. When she wrote on a paper towel with a magic marker and the ink bled through onto the cream kitchen counter-top, DE came to her rescue as a light abrasive just like comet or ajax.

Self-Publishing Bestseller Spotlight: The Man Came and Took it Away by: W.G. Bowser

Either way, learning that you have sold enough books to earn recognition is a surprising achievement and one to be very proud of.

_____________________________________________________________________

Here is one of the bestselling authors for March 2011:

The Man Came and Took it Away by W.G. Bowser

Repossessions

The first true story of life inside the repossession field!

One of the most electrifying and significant documents ever written about the repossession field, “THE MAN CAME AND TOOK IT AWAY” is the authentic story of this controversial profession as seen through the eyes of the dynamic man who owned the world’s largest agency. Bill Bowser, who spent 45 years battling drug pushers, hardcore criminals, sexual deviates, police harassment, deadbeats and even the Mafia, now has disclosed with horrific clarity the dangerous, intriguing, challenging, baffling and outrageous situations which the repossessor meets in an average day’s work. He has repossessed everything from hearing aids on deceased persons, to airliners, and everything in between, including cars, trucks, tractors, pigs, dogs, boats, wooden legs, buildings, tombstones and stallions.

Bowser, probably the most dedicated man ever to enter this field, was determined to get every job done, regardless of personal danger. While performing what perhaps is the most hush-hush, but very necessary, task involved in the preservation of the financial structure of the U.S., death was his ever-present companion. Bowser has been pistol-whipped, shot at, run off the highway at high speeds and burned out, but never was stopped, not even for a day.

First published in 1972. Newly republished with Outskirts Press in 2011.

_____________________________________________________________________

We were lucky enough for Bill (W.G.) to stop by and answer a few questions about his book and the Outskirts Press publishing experience.

OP: What made you decide that self-publishing would be the best way to publish your book?

“I was told I had a lot of stories and should write a book in 1970, so I did. That book was self-published. I ran out of those books and couldn’t get anymore. I was getting so many request for books that I decided to redo my book and re-publish it.”

OP: Why did you decide to publish with Outskirts Press?

“My wife, daughter and I looked into several self-publishing companies. My daughter found Outskirts and it seemed to us that Outskirts had a lot more to offer than any of the other companies, at a much more reasonable price.”

OP: Can you share a bit about your book promotion strategy?

“I know a lot of people, and it seems that even more people know me. Through friends and several organizations that I’m affiliated with, I have been able to set up four book signing events so far. (One has already taken place and was very successful.) Since the book came out I have also been asked to give several speeches, which I feel will give me opportunities for book sales. I am also thinking about advertising in several magazines.”

OP: Describe your book in 140 characters or less.

The Man Came And Took It Away is an autobiography of my career as a repossessor in the early days, 1955 to 1970.”

OP: How long did it take you to write your book?

“It took about a year and a half to write the book, although it was not a full time endeavor.”

OP: Are you planning to publish any other books?

“Possibly. If this book does fairly well, I might write another book which would be my career from 1970 to my retirement in 2002. I still have a lot of stories and experiences to tell about.”

Bestseller Spotlight: A Glimpse into the Inner Workings of My God by:Michael L. Watson

Here is one of this month’s bestselling authors:

A Glimpse into the Inner Workings of My God by Michael L. Watson

What Organized Religions Don’t Know About Your God

Like no other book in history A Glimpse Into the Inner Workings of My God is a 21st century book on personalizing your relationship with your God and discovering “inner peace” in a world at war with itself! Each day’s new discoveries collide with humanity’s struggle to find its moral conscience.

Natural disasters with tragic consequences are adding insult to injury as powerful drug resistant diseases serve as constant reminders of just how fragile creatures God intended us to be. With so much cruelty, hatefulness, insanely driven violence, and greed in the world, today’s true believers in God are discovering that organized religions are ill-equipped to serve humanity’s insatiable need to better understand the “whys” of God’s nature.

Believers and non-believers in God want to know why endless struggles create more pain and suffering than transitory joy? Did God create evolution or did evolution create God? Are there reasons other than blind faith to believe in an afterlife? Throughout the book, I expose my human frailties, that when combined with spiritual materialistic virtues of reason, intuitive knowledge, and humility, will help point the way for better understanding God’s purpose for you in this life.

With chapters such as “God’s SOUL: Source Of Ultimate Love” and “CHANGE: Century that Humankind Acknowledges that Nature is God’s path to Eternity,” your soul will come alive with a “reality-based” euphoria as your spiritual journey leads you to a one-of-a-kind personal relationship with your God! By the end of the book, your perception of organized religion’s impact upon your relationship with God will forever be changed.
