by Jeff Lucas

(4.5 out of 5 Stars – 4 Customer Reviews)

Price: $34.95 Paperback & $46.95 Hardback

The Winds of Malibu is the true story of a boy whose father (a computer engineer with a grudge against Hollywood) has held on to a house in the movie colony of Malibu, California, after a bitter divorce. At the age of eleven, Lucas is fiercely bitten by the Acting Bug and does anything to act. What ensues is a war between him and his controlling father as to his Hollywood aspirations, amid crippling anxiety attacks. The story of an outrageous upbringing, where friends are preferable to parents and Lucas relies on his diary to guide him. Lucas’s peers at school will become Hollywood’s top actors in the coming decade. The ultra-quirky, stormy, funny account of an extraordinary boy’s struggle to hang onto his dream.

This Week’s Amazon Featured Book of the Week is Kilo 3: The True Story of a Marine Rifleman’s Tour from the Intense Fighting in Vietnam to the Superficial Pageantry of Washington, DC by Richard W. Foster, Jr.

Now available on Amazon.com!

Kilo 3 by Richard W. Foster, Jr.

(4.5 out of 5 Stars – 24 Customer Reviews)    Price: $33.95 PB & $49.95 HB

The true story of a 17-year-old kid who quit high school to join the Marines. After a short cruise with the 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean, he was assigned to a rifle company in Vietnam during the heaviest fighting of the war in 1967 and 1968. Returning in shock from what he had seen and done, he was assigned to the most prestigious Marine ceremonial detachment in the world: the Special Ceremonial Platoon. As part of this unit, he served at the White House under two Presidents, and at ceremonial duties all over DC. The contrast from the jungle of Vietnam was startling. While fighting constant nightmares of combat, he stood before Presidents, politicians, celebrities and heads of state, all the while maintaining the dignity and poise required for his position. This book is honest, graphic, and yet enlightening, ending positively. For those interested in understanding the Marine Corps and the horror of personal, ground combat, contrasted with the bright lights and facades of Washington politics, this book will not disappoint.

Reinvented by Bernice Schaefer

Technology has created a wide variety of ways to reach audiences all over the world. It takes is a little thinking outside the box and you can market a self-published book in creative, affordable and impactful ways. Consider book tours! Tours are a great way to connect with your readers and technology has made them easier and more cost effective than ever!

Author Bernice Schaefer is taking her latest book Reinvented, on tour — a Virtual Book Tour with Outskirts Press. This will allow Bernice to take her book into the far corners of the globe, all from the comfort of her own home! Keep an eye out for Bernice’s book as she will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead!

Luckily for us, Bernice was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of Reinvented.

OP: Tell us a little bit about Reinvented. What is it about?

Bernice: This is a memoir that follows my journey from childhood to a respected psychologist and marriage/family therapist. The chapters in Reinvented depict powerful chapters of my life: my New York City childhood, marrying and reluctantly moving to Connecticut, opening a drama school, becoming a counseling psychologist, losing my husband, finding and losing another love, and so much more. This book shows my frailties, vulnerabilities, uncertainties, but more importantly my strength and resilience.

OP: Why did you decide to write this story?

Bernice: I wanted to leave a legacy for my family, and after finishing the book, I realized other people might enjoy the story. I published this book because while my journey is unique to my life, these events are relatable to so many other people.

OP: How did you get your book published?

Bernice: I decided to self-publish. At my age, I didn’t want to wait to find an agent who would in turn find a publisher. I thought this would be much more expedient.

OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?

Bernice: People who are curious about other people and the world.

OP: What is special about your book?

Bernice: I wrote it to leave a legacy for my family and friends and commemorate valuable slices of my life. Reinvented portrays a lifetime of struggle, love, and gratitude.

OP: Have you published any other books?

Bernice: In 2014, I published All That And So Much More through Author House Publishing. Some chapters in that memoir now compliment new chapters and themes in Reinvented.

OP: Do you plan to publish more?

Bernice: Perhaps. I am currently writing a book of essays with three other women.

OP: Thanks for your time, Bernice! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!

This shocking tale of a young girl seduced by a married man twice her age is a true story. Here’s the buzz on Small Town Scandal: “An outrageous journey to emotional maturity” “The secret’s out: a 21-year trip down memory lane” “A glimpse into the private life of a typical Baby Boomer”

Virtual Book Tour: “Surviving Multiple Sclerosis” by Anntionate Salciccia

With the abundance of self-published authors, you have to come up with creative ways to market a self-published book. While book tours are a great way to connect with your readers, they aren’t the most affordable method of promotion. However, technology has made it possible for an alternative.

The self-publishing market is crowded with books, making it difficult for individual authors to stand out. Book tours have long been an established tradition among authors, but while they provide fantastic opportunities for connecting with readers, they can pose some significant challenges in terms of cost and time. Technology has provided the perfect solution in the form of a virtual book tour, a process which combines many of the highlights of the traditional form with the benefits of the digital universe.

Enter Outskirts Press author Anntionate Salciccia, whose latest book, Surviving Multiple Sclerosis, provides an insider’s perspective on multiple sclerosis (MS). Her book chronicles her successes in managing her symptoms by combining her vegetarian lifestyle with meditation and a specialized exercise regimen. As anyone suffering from chronic pain or illness can attest, this is no mean feat … and Salciccia is here to share her wisdom with us!

Anntionate Salciccia sat down with us to answer a few questions about her book by way of a virtual book tour, giving you unparalleled access to her insight and a behind the scenes glimpse into the writing of her book.

OP: Tell us, why did you decide to write Surviving Multiple Sclerosis?

AS: One of the main reasons I decided to write my life story was to show anyone with an illness or facing great pain, that it is possible. It is possible to survive, I myself am a testimony to this fact, having lived with an illness that gives me constant pain, 24/7. I manage my multiple sclerosis (MS) without pain medication. It is possible!

OP: Can you describe what material the book covers?

AS: The book begins with my story, and how I deal with different challenges and obstacles I have gone through over the course of my life, some without MS and some with or because of MS. Many of the challenges I have faced have to deal with pain, memory, and managing physical difficulties without pain medication.

OP: What was the publishing process like for you, and what’s next?

AS: I had my book published through Outskirts Press. It’s the first book I have ever written, but I plan on writing a children’s book in the future.

OP: What makes your book different? What does it have that other books on multiple sclerosis (MS) do not?

AS: I have done and seen many extraordinary things in my life, and I have had some extraordinary jobs, like being an extra in movies and working on a cruise ship. I have even passed my test to become a firefighter. I have done all of this while living with chronic pain and illness. What’s so special about Surviving Multiple Sclerosis?

It chronicles how I overcame challenges through prayer and meditation, and I hope that it serves as a source of inspiration for others.

OP: Thank you for sharing your book with us, Anntionate! We can’t wait to see what adventures life takes you on next. We look forward to learning more about you as you visit with other bloggers!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Anntionate Salciccia is a mother of 4 children and a Christian that prays twice daily. She enjoys reading other author’s autobiographies, and also enjoys vegetarian cooking. She would like the readers to know that 10% of the proceeds of this book will be donated to the MS Society.

Understanding Men With Power by Mercedes Mercado

With the abundance of self-published authors, you have to come up with creative ways to market a self-published book. While book tours are a great way to connect with your readers, they aren’t the most affordable method of promotion. However, technology has made it possible for an alternative.

Take note from self-publishing Outskirts Press author, Mercedes Mercado, who is taking her latest book, Understanding Men With Power, on tour — a virtual book tour, that is. She will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead so keep your eyes peeled to learn more about her and her book.

Luckily for us, Mercedes was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of Understanding Men With Power.

OP: Tell us a little bit about Understanding Men With Power. What is it about?

Mercedes: My book is a self-help book on relationships. It’s true stories that happened to me with men with power. At the end of each chapter a lesson is provided to clarify what I learned from each man. It’s showing women, not telling them the cause and effects of our treatment of men.

OP: Why did you decide to write this story?

Mercedes: My entire life I’ve been giving very productive advice to a lot of women. They’ve had great success with their relationships because of my advice. Instead of just helping my friends, I decided to write a book to help as many women as possible.

OP: How did you get your book published?

Mercedes: I self-published my book with Outskirts Press.

OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?

Mercedes: Mostly women seeking relationship help. But many men are also interested in knowing about other men with power, so there’s an audience for them as well.

OP: What is special about your book?

Mercedes: My book is special because instead of telling women what to do I show them what happens when you behave a certain way with men. This book is a compilation of all true stories, so women can see for themselves how important one’s behavior towards men is. Showing is better than just telling women what to do. Also, the men in this book are famous and/or powerful but I changed everyone’s name so no one can recognize them.

OP: What differentiates it from other books in the same category?

Mercedes: I don’t give women rules to follow. I show them my behavior towards men and how they respond to that behavior. I don’t tell women what they want to hear either. I simply show them what I did so they can see for themselves what works and what doesn’t. It’s a “how-to” book but with actual examples. At the end of each chapter I say the lesson that I learned from each man.

OP: Have you published any other books?

Mercedes: This is my first book .

OP: Do you plan to publish more?

Mercedes: I do intend on publishing more.

OP: Thanks for your time, Mercedes! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!
