Fandemonium (Facebook Anthology) Pricing Is Set, Thanks to Facebook Community

Last week our Facebook community members and blog readers were invited to participate in the pricing of Fandemonium, our first Facebook Anthology that is being written and published by our Facebook Fans.   Our Facebook community had already voted on the title and cover for the anthology, as well as the charity to receive the royalties (The American Red Cross).  Over the past 7 days, they’ve been voting on the pricing scenario to apply to the book.

Pricing Scenario #1 was the winner, receiving 53% of the votes.  Here is the screen shot from within the Outskirts Press Publishing Center when the pricing was set for Fandemonium according to your votes:

Whenever authors publish with Outskirts Press, they receive a pricing screen like this, which allows them to increase or decrease elements of their pricing in “real-time” with the “plus” or “minus” buttons.

One of the major advantages of publishing with Outskirts Press is the control and flexibility you, the author, have over your book’s pricing.   Pricing Scenario #1 sets a retail price of $16.95 for the book, and delivers a whopping $7.38 to the American Red Cross every time a new copy sells through Ingram, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and the many, many other sales channels offered by the Outskirts Press Distribution-on-Demand sales network available with the Diamond Publishing Package.

The submissions have all been received and the pre-production steps have all been completed.  Now Fandemonium enters the production stage of the process where the interior is formatted, the cover is finalized, the ISBN is assigned, and the distribution sales channels are established.  Stay tuned in February when the book enters the Galley Proof Review Stage.

Outskirts Press author, C.J. Thomas, is taking her latest book, Night of the Snake Witch, on tour – a virtual tour, that is. She will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead so keep your eyes peeled to learn more about her and her book.

Luckily for us, C.J. was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of Night of the Snake Witch.

Night of the Snake Witch book cover

OP: Tell us a little bit about Night of the Snake Witch. What is it about?

CJT: Alexandra Kendall is an executive for a pipeline company. She is also in love with Joe Larkin but can’t commit to marriage. When Joe drives Alex to Louisiana to check on an old Contractor friend Lester Kierbo, they find treachery. His daughter Ateara has taken things into her own hands and disappeared into the Bayou.

When Alex leaves for the Dakota’s Joe follows unaware that both of them will be caught up in Atear’s Voodoo and the supernatural. They find out about the thief ring on the pipeline and close in on it’s leader their lives will dangling by a thread.

OP: Why did you decide to write this story?

CJT: I was sitting in my office looking out the window watching the heavy machinery unload the 42″ pipe. The banding that held the pipe to the rail cars was picked up by the large machine and taken to the end of the yard and dumped on the growing pile. As I watched the banding settle, it began to slither. (in my mind of course) That was the birth of Night of the Snake Witch.

OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?

CJT: Anyone over 17 who likes paranormal suspense.

OP: What is special about your book?  What differentiates it from other books in the same category?

CJT: My experience on the Northern Border Pipeline. Most places in the book are real. People are from my imagination.

OP: Have you published any other books? Do you plan to publish more?

CJT:  Yes. I have two other books out under another name. I just finished an adult paranormal suspense and working on the sequel about the sex slave trade.

OP: Thanks for your time, C.J.! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!

Self-Publishing Children’s Authors Can Get Noticed with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair

Self-published authors don’t necessarily have the budget or time to travel around the world to attend various book fairs. Then there are the costs of the exhibit itself, like the exhibition fees, the exhibition stand, and the “giveaways” (often called “freebies” or “schwag”). Typically, self-publishing authors would miss out on the chance to “be discovered”. However, with recent advances in technology, this is a worry of the past.

Outskirts Press offers authors an opportunity to have their book featured during various book fairs worldwide. One that’s rather popular with self-publishing authors of children’s books is the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair is the world’s leading book fair that only features children’s books. The primary focus of this event is to investigate the possibility of the sale of rights and international co-productions.  Historically, full-color books with illustrations are usually the most successful. Because of this, we only allow our Pearl Full Color books to participate.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair occurs in March in Italy and hosts over 1400 international exhibitors. If you’ve ever entertained the thought of forging industry connections or negotiating agreements or licenses for your work, this is an ideal opportunity for you.

Outskirts Press self-publishing children’s authors can register for this event conveniently from their Publishing Center. During the fair, your book will receive valuable, face-out exposure on an exclusive shelf with 4 other Outskirts Press titles and a representative will be on-hand to personally answer questions about your book. Outskirts Press will provide the necessary copies of the book and all the necessary contact information for both the author and publisher, so interested parties can make further contact, during or after the fair. All leads we receives for your book will be forwarded directly to you for personal follow-up.

Space is limited and filled on a first-come, first served basis. Due to the requirements of Bologna, this event is not a part of our Global Book Tour package and must be registered for separately if you are interested.

Don’t you deserve support like this when self-publishing your children’s book?

Vote on Pricing and Profit for Your Facebook Anthology

One of the most powerful elements of publishing with Outskirts Press is the flexibility granted to the author regarding pricing and profit. We are one of the only publishers that pay 100% royalties (100% of the profits), but as you will see in this posting, the actual “dollars and cents” depends upon three other factors: The Retail Price, The Discount, And the Base Copy Price, or in other words, the single copy production price.

Most publishers enforce all these prices without giving you any say in the matter, but you will see from the pie charts below, that can significantly affect YOUR profits and your retail price.  At Outskirts Press, we only set the base copy price of the book.  The retail price and discount (we call it a “Price Plan”) is up to you.

Book pricing is complicated because everyone has an opinion about what they think “the best” pricing is.  So what better way to demonstrate the flexibility of our pricing by allowing our social community the chance to vote on the Pricing Option they like best for the Facebook Anthology, Fandemonium?

Below are 4 different pricing options. Scroll down to the Polling box and vote on your favorite. The pricing option that receives the most votes at the end of the polling period will be the pricing we use for Fandemonium.

You can click on the charts to enlarge them if you need to see them better.

Pricing Option 1 has a retail price of $16.95, a price plan of 25, and a profit of $7.38 for The American Red Cross every time a book sells.  This is the price plan we recommend for this book. Even though we give the power to the author, we always make recommendations to help the author select the best pricing for his or her goals.

Pricing Option 2 also has a retail price of $16.95, but has a price plan of 50.  This means 50% of the retail price goes to the wholesalers and retailers who are involved in selling the book (Ingram, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.).  As a result, the profit for the American Red Cross is lower ($3.16).   Physical bookstores often require significant portions of the retail price in order to be compelled to consider selling the book, but online sites like Amazon.com and BarnesAndNoble.com don’t.

Pricing Option 3 demonstrates the powerful flexibility of publishing with Outskirts Press. Yes, you can set the retail price for this particular book as low as $7.95.  But you will notice the majority of the “pie”  goes toward the production cost of the book ($5.33) as a result. Even with Ingram/Amazon only getting $1.99, that leaves only 63 cents of “author profit” for The American Red Cross.   Since the “pie”  is smaller ($7.95 instead of $16.95) all the pieces are smaller, too, with the exception of the production price, which stays the same in all four options.

Pricing Option 4 has a retail price of $12.95  and a Price Plan of 25.  The base copy price is the same in every scenario, which leaves $3.24 for wholesalers/retailers and $4.38 for The American Red Cross.

His Christian guide starts readers on the path to that goal by having them repeat, in part, “God, please teach me what I need to know. Teach me about you. Please teach me.”

Recognizing from his own life long experience as a student of God that there are fears and doubts one must overcome to achieve the certainty that one’s eternal future is secured in heaven, Carr has presented a specific sequence of steps that reassure his readers that that fundamental Christian goal is possible to attain

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
