Surviving Sibling Loss: The Invisible Thread that Connects Us Through Life and Death by Dawn DiRaimondo, Psy.D.

(4.5 out of 5 Stars – 34 Customer Reviews)

Price: $12.95 Paperback, $29.95 Hardback

When author Dawn DiRaimondo, PsyD, lost her brother in 2004, she found only one book on sibling loss. So, she wrote the book she wished she had then.

Surviving Sibling Loss: The Invisible Thread that Connects Us Through Life and Death is the gold standard of grief books, helping not only people who are grieving but also their therapists, partners, and friends better support their loved ones. The chapters are deliberately short and full of easy-to-find resources, and the book can be read cover to cover or picked up and put down again. This structure aids those who are struggling, who fatigue and lose focus easily under the weight of their grief.

What Day Is It? Everyday Seems The Same

by Nancy Panasci

(5 Stars – 5 Customer Reviews)

Price: $21.95

Nancy Panasci’s “What Day Is It? Everyday Seems The Same” is a story that helps to facilitate parents and children with what a new normal might look like with the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic in their everyday lives. Coronavirus became a household vocabulary item in the spring of 2020. Cities were placed on lockdowns and every human was encouraged to wear a face mask when in public. Social distancing became a mantra. Schools were canceled, sporting events were canceled, and all types of entertainment were canceled. Parents were confronted with working from home and school age children received online education. This book features Hope and her parents as they strive to make each day of the week special, helping to replace monotony with purpose as families learn to live in a changing world where “normal” is forever changed.

Tours are a great way to connect with your readers and technology has made them easier and more cost effective than ever!

Author Patricia Hamilton Shook is taking her latest book Seeking Glory: A Novel About Relationships, Loss and Finding Your Way Home, on tour — a Virtual Book Tour with Outskirts Press. This will allow Patricia to take her book into the far corners of the globe, all from the comfort of her own home! Luckily for us, Patricia was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of Seeking Glory: A Novel About Relationships, Loss and Finding Your Way Home.

OP: Tell us a little bit about Seeking Glory. What is it about?

Patricia: Kate LaRue is a divorced, successful co-owner of an art and gift store on Cape Cod who assumes custody of her young granddaughter, Glory, after the death of her long-missing daughter Ally. Kate soon discovers that Glory is mute and seemingly traumatized. To help her, she must try to solve the mystery of her granddaughter’s origins. As she struggles to deal with her own and Ally’s past she finds she is not the only one seeking Glory.

OP: Why did you decide to write this story?

Patricia: I felt compelled to write it. I had this and a couple of other stories in mind for a while that I really felt I had to put down in writing. I spent several years working on Seeking Glory writing whenever the motivation to do so came to me. I was in no rush because initially I did not expect to publish it. However, once I had it written I felt I had to publish it.

OP: How did you get your book published?

Patricia: I initially tried to find a literary agent but had little success. I decided to try self-publishing and, after reviewing several independent publishers, found that Outskirts Press was the best option.

OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?

Patricia: I think the readers most interested in the book would be women who could identify with Kate; for example, strong successful women dealing with troubled family relationships particularly with teen aged and adult children as well as the those identifying with the difficulties of older adults trying to raise grandchildren, a dilemma that is not uncommon.

OP: What is special about your book?

Patricia: Seeking Glory is a complex story with many themes woven into it. One of the most prominent is the theme of religious and spiritual belief systems. This becomes an issue when Kate begins to uncover the mystery of her daughter’s and later her granddaughter’s past. It leads Kate to examine her religious/spiritual beliefs and places this as a central theme of the book. There are also many psychological themes the most obvious is Kate’s efforts to help four-year-old Glory to talk again using play therapy, something I became interested in when I was beginning to write the book. All of the adult characters have psychological issues that eventually come to light. I think human behavior and why we do what we do is fascinating. And it can make a good story.

OP: What differentiates it from other books in the same category?

Patricia: I think Seeking Glory is most different in the way it successfully combines the elements of literary women’s fiction and cozy mystery.

OP: Have you published any other books?

Patricia: Not as of yet.

OP: Do you plan to publish more?

Patricia: I am working on a new book tentatively titled Where Spirits Dwell which features some similar themes to Seeking Glory; family dynamics, mystery, religion and spirituality but in a different setting and voice.

OP: Thanks for your time, Patricia! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!
