Virtual book tours, for example, are a great way to connect with readers from all corners of the globe, all from the comfort of your own home. Join Cooper C. Woodring, FIDSA and Expert Design Witness 101 as they appear in features and interviews (such as the one below) in the weeks and months ahead!

Luckily for us, Cooper C. Woodring, FIDSA was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of Expert Design Witness 101.

OP: Tell us a little bit about Expert Design Witness 101. What is it about?

Cooper:  The fascinating experience of serving as an expert witness in Federal Courts in design patent litigation when the question is always, “How close is too close in overall appearance (of the accused design to the patented design) to find infringement” and through whose eyes is that judgment made.

OP: Why did you decide to write this story?

Cooper:  Encouragement from patent attorneys I worked with and the curiosity and many questions from my design peers asking what is it that you actually do, and how and when did you learn how to do whatever it is that you do.

OP: How did you get your book published?

Cooper: It started with fear of the unknown, but eventually became easier with a lot of help from the folks at Outskirts Press.

OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?

Cooper: Product designers and industrial designers, students of design and design educators, patent attorneys who specialize in design patents (or want to), and the general public wanting a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes battleground between the award-winning creators, and the copycats, of product designs.

OP: What is special about your book?

Cooper:  It is not a textbook, but it does teach the basics of design patent law in understandable language and it includes the often unusual, strange and funny events and stories that one would not expect to occur in Federal Courts.

OP: What differentiates it from other books in the same category?

Cooper: I don’t believe there are any similar books in the same category. The closest books are dry and highly technical, scholarly books probably authored by a bright attorney with little or no knowledge or understanding of design.

OP: Have you published any other books?

Cooper: No

OP: Do you plan to publish more?

Cooper: Only if this book is successful and the market appears to want more, as I have more to share.

OP: Thanks for your time, Cooper! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!

Technology has created a wide variety of ways to reach audiences all over the world. It takes is a little thinking outside the box and you can market a self-published book in creative, affordable and impactful ways. Consider book tours! Tours are a great way to connect with your readers and technology has made them easier and more cost effective than ever!

Author Dan Barry is taking his latest book Integrity Based Policing: Policing the Streets of Las Vegas by Dan Barry, on tour — a Virtual Book Tour with Outskirts Press. This will allow Dan to take his book into the far corners of the globe, all from the comfort of his own home! Keep an eye out for Dan’s book as he will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead!

Luckily for us, Dan was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of Integrity Based Policing: Policing the Streets of Las Vegas.

OP: Tell us a little bit about Integrity Based Policing: Policing the Streets of Las Vegas. What is it about?

Dan: My book is about policing in the greatest city in the world — “Las Vegas.” I’ve been blessed to have spent 30 years with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). During my career I served in a variety of positions, from undercover high school narc to Bureau Commander of the Organized Crime Bureau. In all these assignments I realized that the importance of maintaining trust is the key to success. The three key virtues to successful policing are Courage, Good Loyalty and Empathy. My goal in writing this book is to uplift organizational culture by realizing that policing is a vocation that requires us to treat others as gifts from God, not focusing solely on numbers and politics.

OP: Why did you decide to write this story?

Dan: When I retired, my love for the policing vocation and my brothers and sisters still working the streets, never went away. I realized that God allowed me to go through my experiences to make our world a better place. I pray that others will learn from my example the importance of being a servanthood leader and serve their communities with honor.

OP: What differentiates it from other books in the same category?

Dan: The fact that the author is both a practitioner and an academic. Throughout my career, I’ve lived the history and knew that policing was heading in the wrong direction. In my present role as the Program Chair for the University of Phoenix, I have been able to study the subject and the need to exercise practical wisdom in our decisions.

OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?

Dan: I am hoping that people currently in, retired, or considering beginning a career in law enforcement will be the largest audience. I am confident that they can all learn important lessons and grow in their own careers. I also hope that policy makers will see the potential positive impact policing can have in their jurisdictions. When policing is done right, great things happen. Troubled neighborhoods form partnerships and the quality of life skyrockets. Lastly, this book is loaded with exciting police stories that are at times emotional, and most often humorous.

OP: What is special about your book?

Dan: First, my knowledge that we are here to serve God, and each other. All of my decisions are from a Christ-centered frame. Second, in parts of this book I admit that I have made mistakes that I learned from. In “The Killer Bees,” I admit that I failed to adequately plan out a tactical situation because I didn’t realize the potential danger. In this situation, all of my team got out safely, but there was an officer involved in a fatal shooting. Third, all my experiences can be applied to other professions. Leadership requires we all act in a virtuous way and not just as bosses.

OP: Have you published any other books? Do you plan to publish more?

Dan: I published Ready, Aim, Trust in 2015 – Classic Day Publishing

OP: How can someone learn more about your book or purchase it?

Dan: Integrity Based Policing is available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and Outskirts Press.

OP: Thanks for your time, Dan! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!
