Happy (early) Thanksgiving from Outskirts Press! To get you into the holiday spirit, today we’re announcing the “Give Thanks” social media event for self-publishing authors.

Publishing a book allows you to share your story. Now, Outskirts Press authors can grab their video cameras or video-enabled smartphones and expand upon their artistic creativity this Thanksgiving by recording a 1-3 minute video that “gives thanks” for being a published author.

Why are you thankful for being published? How has it helped your life, career, family, or the lives of others?  Or, alternatively, who do YOU want to thank for being published? Maybe your parents, or a college professor? Maybe your spouse or children? Maybe your author representative or publisher?  Whoever you wish to thank (sure, thank more than one), now is the time to record your thanks, show off your beautiful book, and share your 1-3 minute Thank You video with fellow writers.

It’s easy!

If you are published with Outskirts Press, or currently in the publishing process with Outskirts Press, here is all it takes for your chance to win a free Apple iPad Mini:

1. Record a brief video – between 1 – 3 minutes in length – that creatively shows why you are thankful for publishing with Outskirts Press or who you wish to thank for being a published author. Creativity really counts here – so don’t hold back. Watch some samples below from our “Show us the Love” contest last Valentine’s Day.

2. Email your video file as an attachment to givethanks@outskirtspress.com before midnight on Friday, November 23rd***.

3. We will share the best videos on one or more of our social media channels like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, furthering exposure for you and your book (so don’t forget to say who you are in the video and what the title of your book is. Video is a visual medium. Show your book, too!   Just one video submission per author, please.

That’s it!

The sooner you submit your video, the more exposure you’ll receive.  You are encouraged to share your video yourself on your social media channels like Facebook and Twitter, too.

What do you win?

Every video submission will receive a free e-book pdf of Outskirts Press CEO Brent Sampson’s Amazon bestseller, Sell Your Book on Amazon.

Among all the entries received, Outskirts Press will highlight select videos on one or more of our social media channels, increasing exposure of your book.

From among all the entries, Outskirts Press will also choose three finalists based in part on the number of comments and/or “likes” each video receives on our Facebook page.

The three finalists will be showcased on this blog on Monday, November 26th*** where everyone will be able to vote for their favorite.

The finalist receiving the most votes before the voting period ends will receive free Apple iPad Mini. We will announce the winner on November 30th***.

Facebook Fans Pick their Presents in the “25 Days of Christmas” Giveaway

‘Tis better to give than to receive.

Here at Outskirts Press, we’re kicking that phrase up a notch for the holiday season. 2011 was an exciting year for Outskirts Press and all our authors (all those awards they’ve won, for example). We want to share this positive energy with all of our Facebook fans, too! So we are putting all of you in control of exactly what we give away. You read that right – you have control over what type of e-book readers we give away–and how many– during our Facebook holiday promotion. It’s kind of like how all our authors keep 100% control over their books.

Introducing the 25 Days of Christmas for our Facebook Fans.  From now until December 25, the more “likes” we get on our Facebook Page, the better the giveaway and the more chances you get to win. Here’s how:

  • If we have 5000 fans or less on Christmas Day, we will have one random drawing from among all our fans to see who wins a free Amazon Kindle.
  • If we have 5001 – 10000 fans, we will have two random drawings, one for a free Amazon Kindle and one for a free Barnes & Noble NOOK.
  • If we have over 10,000 fans, we will have three random drawings (for an Amazon Kindle, a Barnes & Noble NOOK, and a free Apple iPad).
