Los Chimayosos: A Community History by Victor Dan Jaramillo
“This is a community history that contains lasting value, that uses the voices and traditional values and knowledge of the people who have lived there for centuries. This is a story that should be read by native Chimayosos and all New Mexicans and must be passed onto future generations for a true understanding of Chimayó and this region of Rio Arriba.” – B. Michael Miller / / “Dan has spent much of his life studying the history and traditions of Chimayo. He began interviewing old-timers in Chimayo in 1984 and has quietly compiled a rich archive of oral history and reminiscences that is a valuable and irreplaceable record. In addition to this wealth of oral history, he has studied almost every available document, book, article, map or photograph having any relevance to his subject. He has thoughtfully woven all this material together in this book to present a full picture of the history and traditions of a community that is only partially known by the outside world.” – William Wroth |

East Brother: History of an Island Light Station by Thomas K. Butt and Frank Perry
Popular history book on rebirth of East Brother Lighthouse updated East Brother Island is the location of one of America’s best-preserved Victorian-style light stations. First lighted in 1874, the lighthouse still guides mariners across San Francisco Bay. Since 1980 the lighthouse has been open to the public, both for day visits and as a bed and breakfast inn. This book traces the fascinating history of East Brother from the 1870s to the present. In part it is a story of changing lighthouse technology. But more importantly, it is a story of people: from the faithful keepers and their families who lived on the island through the many years, to the many volunteers who more recently helped restore the station after ten years of neglect. At first publication, the author had been studying the history of California’s lighthouses for six years. This was his third book, the second on the history of a lighthouse. |

Dr. Shirley Raines, now a much sought-after speaker, consultant, and author, earned her way from a humble farm in Tennessee to the office of the President of the University of Memphis as the first woman president of that institution. In this frank and heartfelt volume, Dr. Raines shares how this unlikely journey transpired. She describes challenges she faced and lessons she learned along the way that may encourage other young women to pursue careers as leaders, whatever the leadership title. She tells us about how special, loving people in her life guided and supported her along the way, including the touching story of how a professor saved her from giving up on her college education before she even got started. The narrative shows how Dr. Raines starting as a young woman prepared for every opportunity by doing her homework. Those around her who came to respect her described her as “spunky” and labeled her a “steel magnolia.” Read how Dr. Raines developed successful relationships with famous and powerful people in every walk of life including other university presidents, high profile celebrities, state governors, and wealthy philanthropists. At the same time, discover how she never forgot the working men and women who served in support roles and kept the gears turning. Living Life to the Fullest with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome by Kevin Muldowney, PT
How To Take Your Life Back From Ehlers- Danlos Syndrome. This book was written to teach people with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) how to systematically progress through an exercise program to allow their muscles to support many joint subluxations commonly associated with this genetic disorder. This will allow people living with EDS to have less pain throughout their body. The exercise protocol outlined in this book was developed by a physical therapist from Rhode Island, Kevin Muldowney, MSPT, who has been treating people with EDS since 2005. Kevin has lectured to numerous EDS support groups, as well as, at the Ehlers-Danlos National Foundation Learning Conference. He currently owns two physical therapy clinics in Rhode Island that specialize in treating people with EDS. All of the physical therapists at Kevin’s clinics were trained by him to use specific manual therapy techniques and the exercise program outlined in this book to guide people, living with EDS, to decrease their pain and increase their function of daily life. Hopefully this book will serve as a guide for you to live a better quality of life while having EDS. |

Vertical Stories for Horizontal People by Mitch Rapoport
PUT THIS BOOK DOWN… Unless you want to be totally entertained! The most compelling feature of this sweeping variety of short stories, some memoir, some fiction, by author Mitch Rapoport, is that each paint infinitely detailed pictures that breathe life into them. The Molly Chair saga spans over 100 years and follows the path of Solomon’s finely hand-crafted gift for his wife, as it travels down through the generations, and carries with it a trail of triumphs, loss, and memories. Another tale is of the widow, Estelle, whose lifetime is indelibly tainted by a thread of shocking and catastrophic tragedies for the men who share her life. There is the touching story of a man whose profound, but unrequited love, is for a woman above his station, and from it, he provides the world with an astonishing spectacle. The story of Mortimer Barnes, an ineffectual and modest man, will fill you with foreboding when a nightmare turns into a gruesome and bizarre end. You’ll meet Celeste, whose unrepentant miserly existence alienates the world around her. You’ll recognize the contemporary irony in the amusing tale of a man who finds humor in the appalling side effects of drugs advertised on television. You might recognize yourself in the coming-of-age true sagas of a 13-year old’s first experience with physical love and the hilarious account of 2 mischievous young boys who nearly drive their gentle grandfather mad! |
