Congratulations and Good Luck to the 2019 Outskirts Press EVVY Award Nominees!

This year, Outskirts Press has an impressive 79 EVVY Award nominees to thank for their dedication and high-quality work as self-published authors. The EVVYs are an acclaimed annual book award program sponsored by the Colorado Independent Publishers’ Association (CIPA), which recognizes superior independently published books. The EVVYs are judged by a panel of professionals on a qualitative scale of merit in dozens of distinct book categories.

Each year, Outskirts Press nominates a small percentage of the books published during the year for submission to the EVVY Awards. Since a nomination is the first step toward the Outskirts Press Best Book of the Year Award, the standards are high and these nominations represent the very best of our publications as determined by our executives and members of our production teams.

Outskirts Press official nominees and winners receive additional exposure for their books in featured Outskirts Press marketing channels, including our blog, social media networks, nationally distributed press releases and in our email newsletters. The finalists will be announced July 31, 2019, and award winners will be announced during a ceremony hosted by the Colorado Independent Publishers Association in August, 2019.

Congratulations to this year’s Official Outskirts Press EVVY Award nominees, presented here in no particular order:

Congratulations to the authors of these 79 amazing works!

FUELING AMERICA: An Insider’s Journey by Jack Kerfoot

Technology has made it easier than ever to reach wider audiences no matter where they are in the world. All it takes is a little thinking outside the box and you can market a self-published book in creative ways, affordably and impactfully. This is where book tours come in: Tours are a great way to connect with your readers and technology has made them easier and cheaper than ever!

Author Jack L. Kerfoot is taking his book, FUELING AMERICA: An Insider’s Journey, around the world — through a Virtual Book Tour with Outskirts Press. Jack gets to take his book to the far corners of the globe, all from the comfort of his own home! Keep an eye out for Jack’s book as he will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead!

Luckily for us, Jack was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started, giving us a glimpse into the mind of the creator of FUELING AMERICA: An Insider’s Journey.

OP: Tell us a little bit about Fueling America. What is it about?

Jack: Fueling America is an insider’s perspective of the real oil industry — the high stakes gambles to find new reserves, corruption, oil price volatility, fraud, technical blunders, spectacular successes and gut-wrenching failures. These are my first-hand experiences with scientists, wildcatters, bureaucrats, ministers, sheiks, tycoons and potentates in my travels around the world. The book also explains major developments in America’s energy industry, including coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear energy, hydropower, wind and solar. Fueling America concludes by presenting compelling evidence why America should aggressively move from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

OP: Why did you decide to write this story?

Jack: In my opinion, energy is a frequently discussed, but a poorly understood topic. I wrote Fueling America to explain how thousands of small companies, not just large multinational companies, turned an oil shortage in the 1970s into an oil surplus by the 1980s. I also wrote the book to emphasize the urgency for America to develop a viable and sustainable energy policy. I believe America can achieve reliable, sustainable and cost-effective power almost exclusively from renewable energy.

OP: How did you get your book published?

Jack: I chose to self-publish through Outskirts Press.

OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?

Jack: Readers who would be interested to learn why a forty-year veteran in the oil industry is now an outspoken advocate for renewable energy.

OP: What is special about your book?

Jack: Fueling America provides a personal account of inner workings of the of large multinational and small dynamic oil companies around the world.

I provide firsthand accounts of my experiences with the many colorful and dynamic personalities in the oil industry and governments around the world. I conclude with compelling evidence why America should move from fossil fuels to renewable energy, even if the reader doesn’t believe in climate change.

OP: What differentiates it from other books in the same category?

Jack: I have researched twenty-one bestselling books on energy. The majority of the authors are journalists who have limited insight into the energy industry. Fueling America provides my insider’s perspective of the oil industry.

Each chapter in the book covers an eventful period in my journey in the oil industry. At the end of each chapter, I take a step back and explain major energy developments that impacted America. Fueling America explains the causes for oil price volatility, the rise and fall in demand for coal and nuclear energy and the dramatic growth in renewable energy.

I believe I am the only author who has worked in the oil and gas industry that is now an outspoken advocate for renewable energy.

OP: Have you published any other books?

Jack: No, I have not.

OP: Do you plan to publish more?

Jack: I am uncertain at the moment.

OP: Thanks for your time, Jack! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!
