Outskirts Press authors Jessica Pate and Allie Brown visited students in Florida Tuesday and today to share their knowledge of marine life and read from their fully-illustrated book, A Manta Ray’s Journey. Each student got to take a copy of the book home with them.
A Manta Ray’s Journey is about Keven the Manta Ray. He is hungry, but he lost the tip of his fin and can’t swim as fast as the other manta rays. When the manta rays start their journey to the feeding grounds, Kevin becomes lost and must find his way the help of a new friend. Kevin is based on a real manta ray studied by the Florida Manta Project. All proceeds go to manta ray research and conservation.
Jessica Pate is a marine biologist studying manta rays with the Marine Megafauna Foundation. She lives in Florida with her partner, Bryant, and their cat, Yoshi. Allie Brown is a science communicator and outdoor guide in Washington State. She has a Masters degree in Marine and Environmental Affairs and is obsessed with all kinds of animals, particularly those in the oceans and the dog, cat, hamster, and rabbit she lives with.

Speaking of lucky, tonight is the LitWorld Fall Fete in Denver, Colorado. LitWorld is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded by literacy expert Pam Allyn in 2007 dedicated to strengthening kids and communities through the power of stories.
As a proud supporter and sponsor of LitWorld, Outskirts Press invites you to join in tonight’s Fete festivities either in person, online, or through the generosity of a donation.
Let’s make this a night to remember with laughter, stories, and community. Children who read become adults who write.
