Madelyne Spann is a former supervisor for the Berkeley County Library System in South Carolina, where she received a special proclamation to honor her years of service to the community. She is also the wife of Pastor Samuel E. Spann of the Moncks Corner Church of Our Lord Jesus Church of Apostolic Faith. She had a lifelong dream of becoming an author, and she realized it with the help of her eldest son Larry Spann, who is also a writer and an entrepreneur.

Their first book, May Learns To Pray, came out in 2018 and tells the story of how May learns a prayer of gratitude and wonder from her grandmother. It is a heartwarming story for any parent who wishes to start their child on their personal spiritual journey.

Their second book, May Asks Why? Why? Why?, came out in 2019 and follows May’s curiosity about life, aging, and healthy habits. It is a good book for any parent who wants to start a conversation with their child about these topics and answer their “why” questions.

Their third book, May and the Beautiful Little Flowers, came out in 2020 and shows how May learns to slow down and appreciate life and nature. It is a reminder for all of us to notice and enjoy the things and people around us.

Their fourth book, May Visits Dr. Lee, came out in 2021 and depicts May’s first visit to the dentist. It is a fun and informative book that teaches children about oral hygiene and dental care.

Their fifth book, May Wants a Library Card, was just published and illustrates May’s visit to the local library during a daycare class field trip. It shows us all the continuing value of libraries and the knowledgeable people who work there.

Devoting most of her professional career working in the library system, Madelyne Spann has always LOVED books. After recently retiring of 30+ years working for the Berkeley County Library System in South Carolina, the Mayor of Goose Creek gave a special proclamation to honor her years of service to the community. Post retirement, she decided it was time to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a published author. Inspired by journal entries Madelyne recorded while observing her first grandchild Maylene, she developed a series of books about an inquisitive little girl named May. As a Pastor’s wife, Madelyne thought the first story in the series should be the simple act of teaching May a prayer of thanks. Madelyne is the mother of 3, and enlisted the help of her eldest son Larry as co-author. She is married to Pastor Samuel E. Spann, and the couple reside in South Carolina.
