Author LeAnn Shaw is taking her latest book The Attitude Influence: Creating a positive life by taking accountability, building connections, and discovering how attitude influences everything, on tour — a Virtual Book Tour with Outskirts Press. This will allow LeAnn to take her book into the far corners of the globe, all from the comfort of her own home! Keep an eye out for LeAnn Shaw’s book as she will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead!
Luckily for us, LeAnn was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of The Attitude Influence.
OP: Tell us a little bit about The Attitude Influence. What is it about?
LeAnn: My book is about discovering the influence of attitude and making a positive difference. It takes a holistic approach to attitude management that allows the reader to gain self-awareness, identify attitude types, develop methods for creating a positive mindset, and learning to positively influence their environments.
OP: Why did you decide to write this story?
LeAnn: After observing the increasing negativity and polarization in the world, I wrote this book for two important reasons. First, I wanted to start a conversation that I think is greatly needed. I also wanted to make a positive difference in peoples’ lives so they are satisfied when they answer the question, “How will I be remembered?”
OP: How did you get your book published?
LeAnn: I researched several self-publishing companies and ultimately decided to partner with Outskirts Press.
OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?
LeAnn: I started the book with organizational leaders in mind – the types of leaders who want to create happy, successful work environments. As I began the writing process, I knew the audience would be broader. Anyone who wants a more positive life, to live and work in environments that thrive, and make the most of their time on earth will be interested in The Attitude Influence.
OP: What is special about your book?
LeAnn: In my book, I do not hold back about my imperfections or the imperfections of my husband (who happens to be my favorite person). I wanted to paint a picture for the reader that was real and authentic. If I were perfect, I wouldn’t have anything interesting or insightful to share. The discoveries I made on my path towards a more positive life would not have been as valuable. As an avid non-fiction reader, I always appreciate being able to identify aspects of my life or experiences in the stories provided by writers. In The Attitude Influence, it was important for me that my readers be able to do this. I love when people reach out to me and say, “Oh my gosh, that’s me!” or “I had a boss who did that, and it drove me crazy.” These types of experiences connect us. They provide both a mirror for us to reflect upon and a channel marker to guide us. While trying to create a sense of urgency around being better human beings, I do not pull any punches in the book. I want people to be able to self-reflect and be accountable for how they behave and how they show up for other people.
OP: What differentiates it from other books in the same category?
LeAnn: Accountability is a strong underlying theme throughout the book. I created bad attitude types ‘BATs’ as a way to demonstrate how we sometimes behave in less than ideal ways (i.e., “The Know-it-All,” “The Blowhard,” “The Privileged,” etc.). I also provide the reader with The GREAT Attitude Toolbox (Gratitude, Relationship, Energy, Authenticity, & Thoughtfulness) and strategies for positively influencing our environments. The Attitude Influence also provides unique insights and real-world experiences to demonstrate the effectiveness of proper attitude management. I think my warmth is partnered well with my straight talk to maintain a healthy balance of inspiration and relatability that created a conversational tone throughout the book.
OP: Have you published any other books?
LeAnn: This is my first book.
OP: Do you plan to publish more?
LeAnn: I would like to publish a few more books. I am interested in creating content that will embrace differences and create connections. I plan to start my second book later this year or early next year.
OP: Thanks for your time, LeAnn! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!
