As an author in this economy, you have to come up with creative ways to market a self-published book. While book tours are a great way to connect with your readers, they aren’t the most affordable method of promotion. However, technology has made it possible for an alternative.
Take note from self-publishing Outskirts Press author, Dan Sharma, who is taking his latest book, The Illusion, on tour – a virtual book tour, that is. He will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead so keep your eyes peeled to learn more about him and his book.
Luckily for us, Dan was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of The Illusion.
OP: Tell us a little bit about The Illusion. What is it about?
DS: The Illusion” is about the ups and downs in the life of Danny, a young Burmese student, who escapes the Military Regime tyranny to obtain refuge in the United States. The fast moving story takes you from the beautiful temple city in Burma to its jungles and across the river into Thailand and New York as the final destination, and again back to Thailand as a fugitive on his way to escape again into Burma to avoid extradition to the USA. This is a heart touching story of a young man who escapes from the tyranny to his rise to become a multimillionaire business man. But then, he gets trapped in the whirl of his own greed and becomes a fugitive running away from the law. What happens to his life and the human side of his struggle to find the ultimate truth is poignantly described as is the illusion of the perception of truth and happiness.
OP: Why did you decide to write this story?
DS: I am an American Engineer with Two Master’s Degrees, a Business Consultant and a Construction Businessman., but I am also a person who studied Ethics and Metaphysics between ages 7 through 12. And entered University at the age of 12 and had the highest recognition on the University course on ‘Elements of Ethics’ that I studied at age 12. Through this book, I have brought out in the open, the challenges everyone faces, as they have to choose between self-cherishment and caring for others. I have a unique style that touches the heart with openness in expressing emotions and conflict.
OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?
DS: The Illusion’ is about search for true happiness in life, even after tremendous setback. For someone in business with an opportunity to go on a fast track to amass wealth by stretching the acceptable meaning of ethics has to decide upon the value and meaning of happiness. Most people could be tempted to be greedy. ‘The Illusion’ will open their eyes to the perils of cherishing the self. Since most human beings are imperfect, they will benefit from reading ‘The Illusion’
OP: What is special about your book? What differentiates it from other books in the same category?
DS: “The Illusion” is a unique blend of being an action thriller as well as an emotional drama. It is a rare combination covering the spectrum of life. It is realistic and touches your heart. I am donating ENTIRE proceeds from this book to charity including 75% to UNICEF.
OP: Have you published any other books? Do you plan to publish more?
DS: I am a Technical Writer writing Technical Evaluations and Business Proposals. “The Illusion” is the first in ‘Humanities’. Later next year, I will introduce a contemporary Non-Fiction and another Fiction book.
OP: Thanks for your time, Dan! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!
