Outskirts Press is proud of the many self-published authors who’ve produced thousands of high-quality books with the help of our talented self-publishing and marketing experts. Over the years, these authors have racked up a number of accomplishments, awards, author benchmarks and recognitions that serve as a testament to the quality of their — and our — work.
In recognition of the talent of our authors, we like to showcase a different author in our regular Self-Publishing Author Spotlight. This time around, we’re giving a nod to romance author Linda Rae Sande, who has published three books through Outskirts Press: The Kiss of a Viscount, The Grace of a Duke and The Seduction of an Earl. We expect even more great things in the future from this accomplished fiction author.
A self-described nerd and lover of science, Linda Rae spent many years as a published technical writer specializing in 3D graphics workstations, software and 3D animation (her movie credits include Shrek and Shrek 2). An interest in genealogy led to years of research on the Regency era and a desire to write fiction based in that time. Now running the front office of a busy print shop, she’s developed an appreciation for pretty papers and spends time using them in her scrapbooks. She can frequently be found at the local cinema enjoying the latest movie. During the winter, she hosts several junior hockey players, and an indeterminate number of tropical fish live with her year-round. She makes her home in Cody, Wyoming.
The Kiss of a Viscount
Having just inherited a viscountcy, George Bennett-Jones knows he must find a bride, preferably the daughter of an aristocrat; his mistress insists on it. Through a series of lessons, she instructs George on the finer points of meeting and pleasing a woman.
When George spies Lady Elizabeth Carlington dancing with the Earl of Trenton, it’s love at first sight. But the auburn-haired beauty is quite sure the earl will ask for her hand, and she has every intention of accepting — even if his kiss has left her feeling as if she was kissed by a dog!
When Elizabeth mentions the unfortunate kiss during the ball’s supper, George implies there is an art to kissing, innocently offering to replace her poor first impression with a proper kiss. Intrigued, and unaware that George is a viscount and a secret patron of her charity, Elizabeth accepts his offer at the next ball. George is more than happy to accommodate her. His kiss has the daughter of a marquess so stunned, so amazed and so aroused, she requests that he demonstrate the pleasures that can be had in a marriage bed. Knowing he has only one night to court the woman who has captured his heart, George sets out to prove himself while promising he will leave her virtue intact.
Will the evening of pleasure he has planned for Elizabeth convince her to accept his hand in marriage? Or simply leave her with a vivid memory of what she will be missing should she accept the earl’s marriage proposal? The lessons of a mistress prove invaluable in The Kiss of a Viscount.
Time heals all wounds … but what of those left by love?
Having barely survived the fire that killed his family, Joshua Wainwright reluctantly begins his reign as the new Duke of Chichester. He is still recovering from his burns when he joins his best friend and estate manager Garrett McElliott at Wisborough Oaks, the family seat near Kirdford in Sussex where the fire occurred. With repairs and reconstruction underway and a backlog of estate business to complete, the very last thing Joshua can abide is the sudden appearance of Lady Charlotte, the daughter of the Earl of Ellsworth.
Once betrothed to Joshua’s older brother, Charlotte has spent her entire life training to be the Duchess of Chichester. Now that the man she was supposed to marry is dead and her twenty-first birthday is near, Charlotte is determined to marry Joshua, for despite the horrific scars that require him to wear a mask over one side of his face, she has secretly loved him since her coming-out.
The duke has no idea it was Charlotte who arranged for his medical care and transport to London after the fire. Given his scars and the gossip mongers in London who refer to him as “His Grace with half a face,” he is determined to spare Charlotte from having to marry him, even if she feels duty-bound to do so. But Charlotte, hiding hideous scars of her own, will do whatever it takes, including seduction, to secure a marriage to the man she loves.
Will Joshua’s apparent indifference send her into the arms of the earl who has come to claim her? Or will Charlotte choose a different path? Love proves it can heal even the deepest wounds in The Grace of a Duke.
You can’t teach an old dog new tricks … but what about his mistress?
Henry Forster has loved only one woman his entire life. Sarah, a farmer’s daughter, bore him a son when he was merely the nephew of the Earl of Gisborn. Despite Henry’s numerous proposals, Sarah has refused to marry him, claiming he must seek a wife suitable to his rank. And now that he’s inherited the earldom and needs a legitimate heir, he is determined to find a biddable wife but keep Sarah as his lover and his young son in his life.
Lady Hannah Slater, the daughter of the Marquess of Devonville, decided long ago that men have no regard for their wives and only ever love their mistresses. Husbands, she thinks, are for fathering children. Her large dog, Harold MacDuff, can provide protection, but she wants desperately to have a child. So when the Earl of Gisborn asks for her hand, she readily accepts. When the earl doesn’t bed her on their wedding night; he thought it inappropriate to take her virtue in her childhood bed; Hannah is upset and makes her displeasure known while the two are on their way to Oxfordshire. In an effort to appease her, Henry agrees to the proviso that he bed only Hannah until she is with child; then he can resume his relations with Sarah. He is unaware that his true love has set her sights on a different future one that doesn’t include him. It will take the antics and devotion of man’s best friend to teach Henry and Hannah that sometimes love is right in front of your nose in The Seduction of the Earl.
