As an author in this economy, you have to come up with creative ways to market a self-published book. While book tours are a great way to connect with your readers, they aren’t the most affordable method of promotion. However, technology has made it possible for an alternative.
Take note from self-publishing Outskirts Press author, Joye M Carter, MD, Forensic Pathologist and Consultant, who is taking his latest book, Let Me Give You A Peace of My Mind, on tour – a virtual book tour, that is. She will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead so keep your eyes peeled to learn more about her and her book.
Luckily for us, Joye was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of Let Me Give You A Peace of My Mind.
OP: Tell us a little bit about Let Me Give You A Peace of My Mind. What is it about?
JMC: Life is short and stressful enough without letting people get into your head.
OP: Why did you decide to write this story?
JMC: I lecture frequently on how I cope with death and explain that coping with life is more difficult.
OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?
JMC: I write for people of all ages to enjoy and learn from. So from eight to eighty eight is the range I am going for. Young people need to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that it is not a 18 wheeler truck coming at them. Older people need to know that they are viable and champions and, yes, I was listening.
OP: What is special about your book? What differentiates it from other books in the same category?
JMC: I don’t like boring books and I don’t profess to self help but offer glimpses of my real life and real situations that have helped me keep my mind free and clear for next challenge. The reader will see him/herself in these pages.
OP: Have you published any other books? Do you plan to publish more?
JMC: I have published two other books. My first one: My Strength Comes From Within will be re released through Outskirts Press very soon. My second book: I Speak For the Dead was a hardback and I am considering a new rewrite on that with release. I have another book up my sleeve for next year.

Dr. Joye Carter, is a board certified forensic pathologist and owner of the Biblical Dogs, Inc, a forensic consulting firm and the Chief Forensic Pathologist in Marion County, Indiana. She was the first African American to be appointed as a Chief Medical Examiner in the history of the country, the first female Chief Medical Examiner in the District of Columbia, Houston, Texas as well as the first female and minority forensic pathologist to hold the position in Indianapolis, IN. Her mantra is Never Give Up and she seems to live up to her beliefs. This is her third book and she is showing no signs of slowing down after 30 years of medical practice. As always she is an avid dog lover and claims she is owned by Bentley Bear, her charming Labradoodle!
