As an author in this economy, you have to come up with creative ways to market a self-published book. While book tours are a great way to connect with your readers, they aren’t the most affordable method of promotion. However, technology has made it possible for an alternative.
Take note from self-publishing Outskirts Press author, Rachel Hamilton, who is taking her latest book, Better Days, on tour – a virtual book tour, that is. She will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead so keep your eyes peeled to learn more about her and her book.
Luckily for us, Rachel was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of Better Days.
OP: Tell us a little bit about Better Days. What is it about?
RH: Better Days is a poetry/lyric book of songs I have written the songs are of love lost, love gained, and nature. I hope the poems are inspiring and that other people can relate to them. Along with the lyrics are some stories of how and or why I came up with the songs. This is just the beginning as I have been writing a lifetime and I have many more stories to tell.
OP: Why did you decide to write this story?
RH: I write and sing music and I noticed that every time I would play I tended to stop and tell stories about the songs. Everyone appeared to enjoy it and it really got the audience involved with my show so I wrote it down in the book Better Days.
OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?
RH: I think anyone who loves poetry, a story or to be inspired will enjoy this book. There are also pages for journaling. It is one of those books you can read all at once or just savor one reading a day.
OP: What is special about your book? What differentiates it from other books in the same category?
RH: I have gotten really great feedback from people that have read it and they love the stories with the poems I would have to say I think that is a little less common to have the story behind the poem and it has added a nice touch to the poetry.
OP: Have you published any other books? Do you plan to publish more?
RH: I haven’t published any other books yet, however, I am in the process of working on two book projects right now One book will be a novel that is based partly on fact and partly on fiction it is a story about one of my ancestors, a ghost, a murder, and a dream, I am working on this project with my two sisters. The second book is a self help guide on how to make a decision to make a change in your life and the day to day steps it takes to achieve them. I think this book will possibly have more song lyrics and stories as I am writing this book while I am in the process of making some huge life changes so I am charting the course as I am actually living it. I am also working on another CD as I have one published called Better Days Here and Now and I have enough new material that I am ready to get back into the studio the new CD will be a bit more spiritual as I wrote most the songs during my mom’s last few years on this earth and they are songs of the faith and trust it takes to keep moving day to day.
