OP: Tell us a little bit about Voices of the Heart, A Collection of Poems.
OP: What is it about?
David: My book has a collection of poems that I wrote over the course of about ten years. These poems were written when I was in middle school through my college years.
OP: Why did you decide to write this story?
David: I decided to write this poetry book because I strongly believe that poetry is very important in our lives, and it also is a great way to express someone’s life story through poetic language and photography. This art is even more important today than ever.
OP: How did you get your book published?
David: I published my book with outskirts press a self-publishing company that has been very good and professional with all my books which I now have six off.
OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?
David: I think that readers of all ages will be interested in my book. I also think it is a great book to read for inspiration, growth, and to learn the story of a young man’s journey through life, which was not that perfect.
OP: What is special about your book?
David: My book is special because it tells the story of how I survived in an urban society, where a gang war raged, murder was common, and being a young boy that had to watch his back all the time. It was these wonderful and emotional poetry that helped me survive in such a scary place. If it was not for my poetry and connecting with others through open mic nights, I might not have been alive to see this book of poetry come out.
OP: What differentiates it from other books in the same category?
David: Each poetry book is unique and different because poets are human, and they each have a wonderful story to tell. This story can be told through fiction, non-fiction, poetry or through writing. I think the more books that are out there the better.
OP: Have you published any other books, and do you plan to publish more?

This includes two picture books “The Enchanted Rope” and “Peanut” they deal with real life issues we face death and diverse and help readers out in their own lives.
