For many self-publishing authors, it can be a challenge to come up with creative ways to market a self-published book. While book tours are a great way to connect with readers, they may not be cost-effective, especially if you want to reach a nationwide audience. However, technology makes it possible for authors to reach a larger audience, without all of the costly travel.
Take note from self-publishing Outskirts Press author, T. C. Newman, who is taking his latest book, Follow the Light, the Shroud’s Revelations, on tour – a virtual book tour, that is. He will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead so keep your eyes peeled to learn more about him and his book.
Luckily for us, T.C. was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of Follow the Light, the Shroud’s Revelations.
OP: Tell us a little bit about Follow the Light, the Shroud’s Revelations. What is it about?
TCN: The Shroud of Turin, the most controversial and misunderstood artifact ever discovered. A new method for studying the Shroud image leads to new evidence of the real resurrection of Jesus. The image is discovered to be a blueprint, which when decoded, transforms the image into a 3-dimentional sculpture of the Man who was beneath the linen burial shroud. Many new insights are uncovered that until now, has never been understood. The documentation is written as a journal of discovery between the author and her daughter as each enigma of the Shroud of Turin is solved. This project spanned 33 years until the completion of the book in 2013. This book is now officially nominated by Outskirtspress for the 2013 EVVY awards held in Denver, CO 2014.
OP: Why did you decide to write this story?
TCN: After 33 years of working with the image as an artist and solving the mysteries surrounding the Shroud of Turin’s inconsistencies, my daughter who was a great support team for me over the years, convinced me to let the public know about my discoveries.
OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?
TCN: The book is easy to understand, and should appeal well to Christians of all ages, as well as those curious about the Shroud of Turin. The Shroud has been one of the most controversial artifacts. Whenever the Shroud is put on display in Turin, Italy, it draws an audience of over 2,000,000 visitors. The last public showing was in 2010.
OP: What is special about your book? What differentiates it from other books in the same category?
TCN: The Follow the Light method, shows a new scientific approach for studying the image that has never been done before. The method can be easily repeated by any artist willing to duplicate the experiments. It’s not about the Shroud’s history, its physical make up, nor is it about a theory of how some creative genius somehow fooled the world by manufacturing this image. This book examines the Shroud from an entirely new perspective. It is unequal to any other books written about the Shroud of Turin, which for the most part has only been an accumulation of previous information that has simply been re-hashed over and over.
OP: Have you published any other books? Do you plan to publish more?
TCN: No, this is my first and last book I will published. This 33 year project has been my life passion and I am pleased with finally completing the work. My daughter was only 8 years old when the project began, she is now 43. My grandson just graduated from high school and will be attending college in the fall. It’s time to enjoy my family time in these later years.
