As an author in this economy, you have to come up with creative ways to market a self-published book. While book tours are a great way to connect with your readers, they aren’t the most affordable method of promotion. However, technology has made it possible for an alternative.
Take note from self-publishing Outskirts Press author, Tami A. Goldstein, who is taking her latest book, Coming Through the Fog, on tour – a virtual book tour, that is. She will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead so keep your eyes peeled to learn more about her and her book.
Luckily for us, Tami was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of Coming Through the Fog.
OP: Tell us a little bit about Coming Through the Fog. What is it about?
TAG: I share the journey of my daughter’s recovery from Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder to Functioning Recovery and independent living while providing helpful tips for other parents.
OP: Why did you decide to write this story?
TAG: I wrote “Coming Through the Fog,” to help other families. It was such an all-consuming journey in which we learned a lot of information along the way, I knew had I had some of this information sooner it would have greatly helped us navigate the world of autism. Heather’s prognoses were bleak and yet look what she achieved, how could I not share this information? Heather’s doctors and the families I advocate for have been encouraging me for years, when Heather started looking to purchase her own home, I felt the time was right, we had truly achieved Functioning Recovery and had come through the fog.
OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?
TAG: I purposely wrote the book like I was telling a story so that anyone who has a child with autism, or a grandchild, niece, nephew, friend or student could understand what families with children with autism go through.
OP: What is special about your book? What differentiates it from other books in the same category?
TAG: “Coming Through the Fog,” is different than other books in the same category because it doesn’t hide from the controversial aspects of autism. It spells out why and how the educational domain is failing our children, it explains the semantics game in getting supports both medically and educationally and it provides actual projective trials used in the occupational therapy field for reclassification of sensory processing disorder. (Every child with autism has sensory processing disorder.) In “Coming Through the Fog” you read how Heather breaks down medically, educationally, socially and behaviorally without the supports and then how successful she becomes with them.
OP: Have you published any other books? Do you plan to publish more?
TAG: “Coming Through the Fog” is the first book I published, but I am getting a lot of feedback from CranioSacral Therapists around the world who would like me to further elaborate on the CranioSacral Therapy Heather received. CranioSacral Therapy is a light touch therapy that improves sensory, motor and mental dysfunction. It was beneficial in our efforts to achieve functioning recovery and continues to be today. In my own office I have seen amazing results in children on the autism Spectrum who have received CranioSacral Therapy, so yes I believe there will be another book in my future.
OP: Thanks for your time, Tami! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!
