Self-Publishing Book Spotlight: The Adventures of PJ and Split Pea

A young boy and his winged companion learn one’s value is based on more than what’s visible from the outside in “The Adventures of PJ and Split Pea, Vol. 1: Fine Feathered Friends,” the uproariously funny new children’s book from author S.D. Moore.
The Adventures of of PJ and Split Pea, Vol. 1, the first in a planned three-part series, introduces PJ, a young boy who’s often picked on at school for his short stature. Nevertheless, PJ’s excited for his upcoming trip to the pet store to select a companion. It’s there that he spots Split Pea, a parrot with a penchant for repeating conversation—in a British accent, no less. It’s only after PJ brings Split Pea home that he learns the bird’s gift for gab is for real.

Before long, the duo’s friendship soars. There’s just one problem: Split Pea can’t fly. Through a series of attempted fixes, both friends learn there’s more to life than others’ expectations of our own abilities.  In the end, PJ and Split Pea learn, it’s more important to just be the way you are.

Beautifully illustrated in full color by renowned children’s book artist Bobbi Switzer, “The Adventures of PJ and Split Pea” marvelously depicts the fanciful friendship of a young boy and his bird buddy, in all their goofy antics. The book’s message of self-image—and how love isn’t based on what a person looks like—is sure to appeal to parents, while kids will latch on to the idea of a talking bird who’s a boy’s best friend.
