Why did two apparently unrelated murder victims, a young prostitute and an unidentified Korean man, die on the streets of New York City with the same cryptic words, “A thousand points of light,” on their lips? NYPD Detective Sergeant Walter Hudson’s efforts to find out unexpectedly but inexorably lure him into the treacherous worlds of political intrigue, unchecked power, and limitless wealth—worlds that he is ill-equipped to understand. But he has to learn fast as he begins to peel back the layers of a monstrous plot that threatens not only the city he loves, but his country as well. It’s a race against time, and Detective Hudson has less time than he thinks.

Placid Hollow: A Walter Hudson Mystery

Federal Judge T. Franklin “Teddy” Braxton was beloved by his family and admired by his peers. His immense wealth had put him at the pinnacle of New York City’s elite political and social worlds. So who murdered him in cold blood? Perhaps it was the nearly naked young woman found standing over his body with a .45 caliber pistol in her hand. Or perhaps not…. Detective Lieutenant Walter Hudson is in over his head, and he knows it, as he immediately begins to receive intense pressure to solve the case from both Mayor Deborah Kaplan and Police Commissioner Sean Donahue, both personal friends of the Judge. And he may be getting in over his head personally as well, as the judge’s beautiful daughter, Virginia, starts giving him more help than he’s looking for. He’ll need all the help he can get from Leviticus Welles, now a rising star in the NYPD’s Intelligence Division, to guide him through the maze of Teddy Braxton’s life as well as the tangle of his own emotions. But one thing Walter knows from the start is that there’s nothing placid at all about Placid Hollow.
