My Pack: Burney the Hollywood Puppy

Meet Burney, a Shih Tzu puppy who was born in Minnesota and sold to a Beverly Hills pet store. He misses his pack-mates but quickly forms a new bond with Stacey, the aspiring actor who purchases him from the pet store. With his new pack-mate, Burney experiences the joy and adventure of living in Hollywood. A loving and friendly puppy, he meets actors, policemen, robbers, and even has a part in a movie! His great joy is romping on the beach, running in big circles, and meeting other dogs and people. In the first three months of his life, Burney wards off a robber with deadly intent; is frightened by a monkey during an audition; breaks two toes when a woman with spiked heels steps on him; and is sprayed by a skunk. During a romp in Griffith Park, Burney makes a gruesome discovery and inadvertently helps the local police department solve a murder investigation, leading him to become an honorary member of the K-9 Platoon. cover (51)The Studio: Stained Glass Art and Travel Helped Me Deal with the Loss of a Spouse

When Walt’s eye and heart are captured by two beautiful but damaged stained glass panels, he couldn’t have dreamed of how they would impact the course of his life. The Studio is the story of Walt’s journey with the art of stained glass, as he and his daughter enroll in a class with the idea of repairing the panels, but soon find themselves completely immersed in this fascinating craft, with Walt, who never considered himself an artist, even showing and selling his work. But when Walt is 69, life has some unexpected surprises for him. The expected death of his loving mother is followed by the tragic death of Sandy, his beloved wife of 40 years, and shortly after that, his brother. Walt stays focused during this year of loss—and then he and his daughter, Stacey, embark on a year-long adventure of travel and spending, leaving a lifetime of penny-pinching behind. Their wonderful trips to Canada, Scotland, Ireland, and the Caribbean culminate in a memorable Christmas in Hawaii. The road ahead has another detour in store for Walt, as Stacey’s unexpected illness causes him to pull up his roots in Washington and move to southern California to help her. Through it all, Walt’s love of art and the joy he finds in his studio help him to keep his perspective, and find inspiration and a reason to carry on during the hardest times. This candid, warm memoir will resonate with everyone who has experienced love and loss…and everyone who has found their center in a creative pursuit.

Love, the most universal experience, is the central theme of this heartfelt collection of poetry…love in all its glory, pain, wonder, joy, hurt, betrayal, and power. Looking back over her lifetime of flirtations, boyfriends, true love, and heartbreak, Stacey Todd brings a unique transparency and honesty to her memories. From an innocent and yet deeply felt game of Spin the Bottle in childhood to the wrenching heartache of a first love lost…from the enjoyment of dating hot boys in Hollywood to the confusion of learning that one of them is not what he seems…from learning more about what love really means to learning more about herself…Stacey shares her courage, her humor, and her sensitivity. And at last, when life-altering physical symptoms lead to the diagnosis of a serious illness that she would need to manage for the rest of her life, she began to discover different definitions of love, in those who lifted her up in her time of need. With the support of her father, Walter Todd, Stacey has brought this collection of poetry to you.
