OP: Tell us a little bit about When the Bullying Stopped. What is it about?
Bernice: This story is about an eight-year-old boy named Peter, who was in the third grade at Leonard Street Elementary School. Alex and his friends, Max and Jax, picked on Peter every day. These boys were also in the third grade at the same school. This bullying made life miserable for Peter, and he knew he had to find the courage to tell his parents how Alex and his friends were terrorizing him at school.
OP: Why did you decide to write this story?
Bernice: I decided to write to inspire and motivate children experiencing bullying or who may do so in the future.
OP: How did you get your book published?
Bernice: I got my book published by sending in the manuscript to Outskirts Press Inc. They approved my manuscript. Then, I choose my illustrator. My illustrator and I worked together as a team to draw and match up pictures to the story to make the book come alive
OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?
Bernice: The types of readers interested in my book include parents, teachers, youth leaders, and 5-9-year-olds.
OP: What is special about your book?
Bernice: What is special about my book is that it helps children find courage in their encounters with bullies and teaches them how not to be bullies.
OP: What differentiates it from other books in the same category?
Bernice: What differentiates it from other books in the same category is that it is a diversified colorful picture book about bullying that acts as a mirror for children to see themselves in other characters and experiences.
OP: Have you published any other books?
Bernice: Yes, I have published two other children’s books.
OP: Do you plan to publish more?
Bernice: Yes, I plan to publish two more children’s books in the future.
