This week we highlight self-publishing author Everett Lovrien who has published two successful titles with Outskirts Press.

About the Author:

Everett Winslow Lovrien is the third of Lelah’s five children. He was born in Iowa on the farm, completed high school in Sac City. He remembers the music from his mother’s old upright piano as she read music from Etudes. She loved to read poetry and inspired her children to overcome harshness and enjoy the creative arts.

 

He attended the Lovrien Picnics each July in the City Park in Humboldt as a child where he listened to the men folks argue and discuss events. Lovriens gathered in the Union Cemetery, Humboldt, on Decoration Day.

Family History of George Washington Lovrien Descendants

A revision of Gladys Lovrien’s Family History and Genealogy Homesteading in Dakota and farming near Humboldt, Iowa.  The Lovrien Family History and Genealogy includes 521 individuals who are descendants of Lovriens who settled in Humboldt County, Iowa. Their origin can be traced back to one ancestor, John Lovering (1637-1668) who emigrated from England to the Plymouth Colonies in about 1654. Lovering families settled around Salisbury, New Hampshire. 100 years later, 1754, the name Lovering was changed to Lovrien with the birth of Samuel Lovrien (1754-1829). Samuel Lovrien’s grandson, George Washington Lovrien, died at thirty-three years of age in 1854 in Vermont. His widow, Sophia Bixby Lovrien, remarried John Willey. The first Lovrien to go west was her oldest son, George Henry in 1867 following the end of the Civil War. He began farming in Humboldt County, Iowa, in 1870. Sophia and her husband moved to Rutland Township, Humboldt County, Iowa, with her two sons in 1870. The families of the three sons, George Henry, Francis Hoyt and James Monroe are the origin of all the Lovriens that began in Humboldt county. Many of the early Lovriens are buried in the Union Cemetery at Humboldt, including Sophia who died in 1877. This revision of Gladys Lasser’s book, adds individuals to the Lovrien list and provides information about descendants of George Washington Lovrien that has become available through informative data resources.

Poems written by Lelah Winslow Lovrien encompass an extensive view of daily living experiences that are familiar to everyone, young and old.

Lelah was born in Kansas, daughter of a Methodist minister, grew up in Southern Iowa, lived on an Iowa farm, and was the mother of five children. She wrote poetry, played the piano, painted in oils and created pottery, all self-taught. She taught herself to read French and studied astronomy. Her grandchildren loved her poems.
