About the Author:
Jeff Becker is a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary (1985) and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America in 1989. He has served as pastor, educator, and music director. Jeff has been married to Stephanie for 28 years, and they have 7 chidren.
God’s Ten Timeless Words: The Key to Human Happiness
When you hear someone mention “the Ten Commandments,” of what do you think? Perhaps you conjure up an image of Moses—or Charlton Heston—coming down Mount Sinai, stone tablets in hand. Or maybe you think of that ancient seraphim-clad box in the “Raiders” film with streaming flashes of light and melting Nazi faces. But whatever your image, what’s in the box itself probably holds no more interest for you than you would have in enduring the Egyptian plagues or being dropped into a snake-pit! The Slubgob Letters: The Correspondences of a Teaching Devil to a Post-Graduate Student “Woodworm” On the “Master Plan” for the Churches
From the time of the fall of man, when The Creator first annunciated his auspicious plan to remediate the effects of that fatal lapse, the spiritual nemesis of mankind had been at work to unseat the life of God from the soul of man.—Fast-forward several millennia. In 1940, a particularly insightful writer and avowed opponent of that nemesis—one C.S. Lewis—managed to intercept some of the correspondences between one of the Devil’s minions—called “Screwtape”—to a junior devil—called “Wormwood.” These letters revealed a nefarious plan to tempt and ultimately to destroy just one of the objects of God’s saving grace. Spoiler alert—they failed! Now, the Devil and his agents had to start from scratch. Not wishing to be outdone for having failed to snuff out their selected Christian “rat,” the Enemy hatched an even grander plan. This time, he would go after the “nests,” that is the churches! The selected stratagem was to stir up so much dissension and division, that the unifying ligature of God’s Church, which is the secret of its power, would be broken down, thereby exposing the rats themselves to error and apostasy. “The Slubgob Letters,” named for Lewis’ Head of the Tempter’s “Training College,” contains the correspondences between Slubgob and his trainee “Woodworm,” disclosing the details of this new “master-plan” to “eat away” at the structure of the churches, and thus, to destroy both the vermin and their revered institution.

The Church’s Charter: A Modest Proposal for Evangelical Ecclesiastical Unity from the Teachings and Example of the Apostolic Church
What is the Church? What is it supposed to be? Judging from the literally thousands of denominations with their various and conflicting doctrines and practices, is it even feasible to determine the proper definition of the Church? If the New Testament is to be accepted as the basis for the Church’s definition, what we must know is this. When its Founder Jesus Christ described his Church, He described it as “one” Church. He further insisted that his Church should be unified—and unified in a visible fashion. His Apostles would then reinforce Jesus’ teaching in their numerous writings. Given both the Source and the substance of these criteria, therefore, as long as the Church fails or refuses to aspire to this standard, whatever it may be, it has no ground for laying claim to being Christ’s Church! The Church’s Charter is an endeavor to recall the Protestant Church to its Christ-mandated and apostolically-sanctioned model. It calls on the churches to exorcise from their separate sanctuaries the plethora of man-made doctrines and practices which have proven to be so divisive and so inimical to the One Church’s purity and effectiveness, and to receive and affirm the apostolic pattern as it is set forth in the New Testament in order to discover the basis of its intended unity. Only then may those churches which lay claim to being Christ’s Church, in fact, prove to be so.
