Author Poll: Writer Dawna Lott wants your help with her book cover

Dawna Lott is publishing a book with Outskirts Press. And she wants your help with the book cover.

On a small rural farm in Oak Grove, Georgia, five-year-old Emma Kirkwood’s life is a nightmare of hunger, pain, fear, and hopelessness. Abandoned by their parents, Emma and her brother and sister are at the mercy of their cruel and abusive grandparents. When her grandfather sexually assaults her, Emma seeks refuge in denial and repression of the terrible memory.

She manages to escape her circumstances when she goes off to college, her Greyhound bus ticket “a one-way ticket out of hell.” She marries, has children, and is successful in her career. But there are still obstacles to overcome before she can find true love and happiness, and sometimes the obstacles seem insurmountable. It takes great courage and perseverance for Emma to embrace her past and claim her future; Emma’s Journey is the story of her triumphant survival.
Dawna Lott was born in Tennessee and raised in Georgia. She worked in the executive administrative field for Fortune 500 companies for twelve years but now enjoys free time to fulfill her passion for creative writing and poetry. She currently lives in Virginia with her husband, Tom. Emma’s Journey is her first novel.

  1. I like the blue cover best. Why? Because you came out of the past into a bright future no matter what you faced growing up. I always like to see and read about redemption and in Christ we always win as we put our trust in Him.

  2. The blue cover is prettier but what does it have to do with anything? The brown cover is foreboding and even a bit sinister and actually fits the setting. After all this is not a sunny story

  3. Cover A! It seems brighter and catches the eye better…cover B looks too depressing…as an avid book reader I ofter scan the shelves and pick up a book strictly by cover only, especially if I’ve never heard of the author…just my opinion, but any one you choose will be fantastic! So proud of you!

  4. The brown cover has it…in my opinion. It looks kind of gloomy, but I think it’s more in keeping to the story line.

  5. I like the blue cover best. It stands out more plus it gives some idea of the story. It shows that a long road is ahead for the character but the light colors give the impression of light at the end of the tunnel. It looks more like a novel of triumph over obstacles. I also love the font of the title. However, it does make the first paragraph on the back cover slightly more difficult to read. Overall, I think cover 1 is a much better choice.

  6. I’m not sure – the blue background jumps out but the brown/tan seems to fit better with the title.
