Submissions Now Being Accepted by Outskirts Press for the 4th Annual Facebook Anthology

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Outskirts Press is putting the call out to Facebook fans to contribute their short literary works for inclusion in Fandemonium Volume 4. The volume is expected to hit shelves by summer.

April 8, 2014 – Denver, CO – In what’s quickly become an anticipated annual tradition, Outskirts Press is once again reaching out to the online community for contributions to its annual Fandemonium anthology, slated for publication in early summer. The Denver-based self-publishing company is accepting submissions to Fandemonium Volume 4 now through April 30.

The annual Fandemonium compilation includes stories, poetry and other short-form literary works submitted by fans of the Outskirts Press Facebook page. For three years now, Fandemonium has brought Outskirts Press Facebook members together to experience the joy of publishing first-hand, while benefiting a great cause along the way. Proceeds from the sale of the 2014 Fandemonium collection will be donated to the American Red Cross on behalf of Outskirts Press and its Facebook fans.

Members of the Outskirts Press Facebook community can submit poetry, short stories, excerpts, recipes or anecdotes for free publication. Submissions can be fiction, non-fiction or poetry, and entries under 5,000 words will be considered first. Getting published in the Facebook Fandemonium is simple:

  • Create a “Status Update” on Facebook.
  • Tag the Outskirts Press Facebook Page in the update (Type @Outskirts somewhere in the body of the message – the Outskirts Press page should pop up in a drop down message. Then select it).
  • Set the update as “Public” and click “Post.”
  • Submit the entry before April 30, and enlist friends to “like” it on Facebook.

Submissions with the highest number of likes will be considered for inclusion in Fandemonium Volume 4. The result of this unique crowdsourcing effort is a collection of superior writing from the Outskirts Press Facebook community, the profits of which provide much-needed funding to a worthy cause.

“We received such an overwhelming response with our first three Fandemonium volumes,” said Outskirts Press Executive Vice President Kelly Schuknecht. “Not only did we get many, many enthusiastic responses – and a lot of positive feedback about Fandemonium – but we received a great deal of extremely high quality material. But then, we expect nothing less from our talented writers.”

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT & SUCCESS STORY

“My decision to publish was spontaneous. I had no idea what was involved and just hoped for the best. Throughout the experience, my questions were answered promptly and what I was unclear about was explained. Because I self-published, I had to make many decisions, which meant I had to be involved and vigilant. The end result turned out better than I could have hoped for. Thanks to Outskirts Press, I was able to make my dream come true.”

Christina Steiner lives in Southern California. She is the mother of two daughters who loved illustrated children’s books when they were growing up. The Sad Tree and Pronuba was inspired by Christina’s visit to the Mojave Desert where she became fascinated by the Joshua Tree and the desolate environment in which it flourishes.

The desert is a lonely place for Joshua, a tree who has never seen another tree like him. He asks everyone in his environment to help him find a companion…but although the desert loves him, nobody can help. Things change for Joshua one beautiful spring night when a tiny moth comes to visit. This exquisite story about the life-cycle relationship between the Joshua Tree and the Pronuba Moth will delight readers of all ages.

– Christina Steiner, author of The Sad Tree and Pronuba
