A Nantucket Experience by Shellie Dunlap Virtual Book Tour

As an author in this economy, you have to come up with creative ways to market a self-published book. While book tours are a great way to connect with your readers, they aren’t the most affordable method of promotion. However, technology has made it possible for an alternative.

Take note from self-publishing Outskirts Press author, Shellie Dunlap, who is taking her latest book, A Nantucket Experience, on tour – a virtual book tour, that is. She will be featured on several blogs over the weeks and months ahead so keep your eyes peeled to learn more about her and her book.

Luckily for us, Shellie was kind enough to answer a few questions as the tour was getting started so that we can give you a sneak peek into the mind of the creator of A Nantucket Experience.

OP: Tell us a little bit about A Nantucket Experience. What is it about?

SD: A journey through my first year as a full time resident of Nantucket – unearthing not only hidden places and pleasures of the island but also showcasing activities, organizations, people and the lifestyle of our small island community known to most as a luxury tourist destination but to locals simply as home.

OP: Why did you decide to write this story?

SD: As a real estate agent on Nantucket, I discovered there was a wide range of people, personalities and perspectives regarding island living. Multi-generational local families, small business owners, bright-eyed tourists, summer residents and history buffs all share something in common – the love of Nantucket. I began writing a weekly blog and e-blast in my capacity as a real estate agent  sharing my perspective as a new year round resident (after being a summer resident for 17 years) and it gained instant popularity. Subscribers enthusiastically encouraged me to compile the musings into a book that could be gifted and shared with their friends and families.

OP: What types of readers would be interested in this story?

SD: Anyone who has ever, or would like to, visit Nantucket or New England. Anyone who appreciates historical destinations. Anyone who has ever lived in or visited a small town and frankly anyone at all who simply appreciates reading the life and times of someone with a fresh optimistic perspective on small town life in America.

OP: What is special about your book?  What differentiates it from other books in the same category?

SD: It is a deeply personal and introspective accounting (complete with photos) of a very popular tourist and historical destination.  It is not simply a guide or summary. The reader will feel as though they are being treated to a private viewing of my personal diary and family album.

OP: Have you published any other books? Do you plan to publish more?

SD: This is my very first published book. Yes, I am currently working on my second book.

OP: Thanks for your time, Shellie! We look forward to learning more about you as you visit other bloggers!

A Nantucket Experience Author Shellie DunlapABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Shellie Dunlap has had a romance with Nantucket Island for over twenty years. From the moment she first set eyes on the island, as the Steamship rounded the Brant Point Lighthouse, she knew she was home. She and her family spent seventeen years as summer residents before making a full-time move to the island in the fall of 2010. As a real estate agent on the island, Shellie discovered there were many residents and visitors who shared her passion for all things Nantucket, so she created a weekly blog and e-blast documenting her island activities and musings. Her quick wit, optimistic perspective and unique ability to create word pictures captivates clients, friends and Nantucket residents as she brings the island to life for them throughout the year. Originally from small town Iowa, Shellie and her husband Dan now call Nantucket home. Shellie is mom to three sons, a daughter and daughter-in-law and “Grammie” to three granddaughters. Her greatest joy is gathering all of them together to create new Nantucket Experiences.
