ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Rachel Vasquez-Price grew up hearing many stories of the hardships that many Mexican immigrant families endured as they journeyed to the United States during the Mexican Revolution. She attended Pasadena College and graduated in 1962 with a B.A. in education. In 1978 she received her M.A in education from the California State Polytechnic University in Pomona. She was employed by the Hacienda La Puente School District for thirty-six years as an elementary school teacher and Resource Teacher. She is currently retired and residing in West Covina, CA.

Reina The Cat: Inspired By True Events

This story is about friendships.

Reina the Cat is a story that is inspired by actual events that took place. First, Reina who had been adopted by Rachel and Steven is sadden by the news that Zippy, her friend who was also adopted at the same time, is found dead in the patio. Next, she finds out that Rachel is told by her allergist that she is highly allergic to cats. Finally, she is left feeling abandon when one day Rachel suddenly comes down with a paralysing illness and is no longer able to care for her. This story takes you through an imaginative course of events that the author felt Reina must have endured during this time. At the end Reina is able to solve her loneliness.

Some were devastating and some were uplifting. Her story takes you into a world where only those that have been completely paralyzed and helpless ever experience. She writes step by step on how she was able to cope with each phase of her rare and terrifying illness. Like many others who have suffered challenging disruptions in their life, she was able to gain new insights and forced to reach out to a Greater Power for help. Surprising, what could have been a very depressing time in her life, turned out to be a time of real spiritual growth, discovery of new interests, and self confidence. The realization that we are truly never all alone and the power of an individual’s spirit to never give up, should be inspirational to all.
