Students will experience repeated exposure to explicit instruction that focuses on continuous, constructive feedback. Over time, students will be able to recognize grammar errors and develop the skill to edit such mistakes. Furthermore, students can improve collaboration skills through sharing quality writing with peers. Vocabulary instruction is implemented with each lesson that allows students to make meaningful and lasting connections with words. Graphic organizers and checklists are provided for the educator to bridge what students do not know to what they need to master. About the Author

Teresa L. Perry, Ed.D., is a eighth grade English teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada. She has served on committees to improve K-12 curriculum. She has presented and studied better writing practices in London, Brazil, and the United States. Perry’s research interests include differentiated instruction in middle and elementary school. She has written several articles on improving reading and writing skills. Perry’s experiences include 29 years as a public school teacher, working with elementary middle school students. She has taught English language arts, reading, and art. Perry tutored struggling learners and was East Region Teacher of the Year in 2003 and 2010.
