Skip the Linens, Fancy Crystal, and Fine China—The Daughter-in-Law Rules by Sally Shields is the Best Wedding Gift Money Can Buy!

Your mother-in-law is coming! As your husband announces that his mother is due to arrive in a couple of hours, your hands sweat and your heart begins to palpitate as you quickly try to neaten and straighten the house to perfection. Help! Can you possibly live up to her standards? Will anything you do be to her satisfaction? Why does the mother of your beloved always cause such fear and trepidation?

Sound familiar? Millions of women have strained or outright hostile relationships with their “MIL” (mother-in-law). But does it have to be that way? Absolutely not! Author Sally Shields comes to the rescue with a delightful and witty book on how to deal with the other woman in your husband’s life––his mom. “Although my own relationship with my mother-in-law got off to a rocky start,” says Sally, “by implementing the devices outlined in The Daughter-in-Law Rules, we now enjoy a special bond.”

Sally knew she needed to take matters into her own hands and change the dynamic with her MIL for the better, or risk her relationship with her husband. So she started jotting down every bothersome incident, misunderstanding, and irritating encounter and created a rule and a solution for each and every one of them. The Daughter-in-Law Rules covers everything from unwanted advice on childrearing to everyday household matters. It is chockfull of real-life situations and scenarios and how to deal with them all with grace and humor.

“The point of The Daughter-in-Law Rules is to help you stay one step ahead of your mother-in-law,” says Sally. With a little effort and patience, every new wife will be able to coexist peacefully with her mother-in-law.

  1. Sally,
You mentioned tying in Events and people to your book.
The book for the Academy Award winning movie, THE BLIND SIDE was written by the famous author, Michael Lewis, and he has given me his permission to use an Excerpt from his book, THE NEW NEW THING, (WW Norton & Co.) in my book, THE RIDE In the Air & Through the Courts. This excerpt started out by saying, “An American Court of Law is in many ways, un American”, and this was inspirational for me as I pursued my ride through the courts. It is a great honor and I would like to try to include this in marketing my book. Any suggestions? Thank you. Patti

    1. Hi there, Patti!

Great to meet you yesterday!!! That is, indeed, a fantastic quote that you got permission to use!!!
I’d have to know more about your story and expertise to be able to suggest ways in which to make it newsworthy, to get some great publicity! Might you have a press release or a website that I can take a look at?

      Proud of you!!!
      Sally 🙂

  2. Dear Sally, I was at the Book Symposium at the Sheraton yesterday and I must say I loved, you best among the panelists and “Publicity” was the best lecture for me in the lot. It was really so informative.
I was the one who suggested that you have placards in front of each panelist with their name and website.
I can truly identify with your book, the Daughter-in-Law Rules! I always said, I had two mother in laws, the one from Heaven and the one from Hell. Where was your book when I met the Devil?
I left after your session for the airport and accidently threw away all my precious notes from your panel as there was a duplicate pamphlet and I put the notes in the one I threw out.
Is it possible to send me an outline?
I feel so stupid. You had great suggestions and websites to sign up with and I blew it.
I just published my book, THE RIDE In the Air & Through the Courts and was looking for marketing tools.
Thank you again and I hope to be at your lecture next year.
    Patti

    1. Hi Patti!

I would be most delighted to send you an outline! Please let me know your email, and I’ll get that out to you ASAP. I’m so glad you enjoyed the panel!

      With much admiration,
      Sally 🙂
