Self-Publishing Book Spotlight: ‘Red Sun’ by Dolapo Lawrence

Outskirts Press was founded and grown upon the principle of helping creators realize their greatest writing ambitions. Self-publishing a book is a major undertaking, and we’re proud of the work our authors do to create amazing literature and see it through to publication. So, it’s with pride that we take a moment each week to recognize one of the many authors of whom we’re so very proud in our Self-Publishing Book Spotlight.

This week we shine our spotlight on self-published author Dolapo Lawrence and his book, Red Sun. After working to get his action/adventure novel written and polished for publication, Dolapo expedited the publishing process by taking advantage of Outskirts Press’ One-Click for Fiction package, which includes everything a budding novelist needs to get a high-quality book to print. One-Click for Fiction includes: a publishing consultant and personal marketing assistant, enhanced book formatting and full-color custom cover design, copy editing, copyright registration, electronic and mobile editions (Kindle, Nook, eBook), an author webpage, a marketing coach, author copies and much more.

In Red Sun, Outskirts Press author Dolapo Lawrence takes readers along on one young mother’s harrowing journey through war-ravaged Darfur, where she learns much about the brutality of life — and her own resilience.
Red Sun

This deftly plotted novel brings together an intriguing cast of characters whose lives and fates intersect in the wake of the war in Darfur. Ranya Abass, a resourceful and affable woman, flees her home with her two teenage children when a notorious militia attacked her people. After a grueling five-day journey, she is rescued by two African Union soldiers and taken to a camp for displaced people. As the story unfolds, we follow the journey of Major Femi, one of the soldiers who rescued Ranya, as he deals with the political and ethical morass of an intricate peacekeeping mission, and his brother Zach Thompson, whose humanitarian mission in Sudan leads his personal life to blossom in unexpected ways. But the heart of Red Sun is Ranya, who finds that her love for her children will inspire her to do things she wouldn’t have believed possible … and lead her toward a destiny she could never have imagined.
