Outskirts Press, the fastest growing self-publishing and book marketing company, announced today the availability to all authors of their exclusive Book Blast Package, a book promotion Tour de Force that combines their five most popular book marketing services at a twenty-five percent savings.

“Thank you and your staff for developing this vital marketing tool for your authors. As Writing as a Small Business stresses, a web presence is vital and the wave of the future for marketing and selling books. You all proved it.” said Nash Black, author of Writing as a Small Business.

Here are five steps to successfully launching your book:

Have a press release written and distributed by a professional writer.

Send your press release to industry contacts. Follow up with phone calls as appropriate.

Create a sixty second (or less) video trailer for your book and distribute it through online social networks.

Find book reviewers who are committed to providing quality and honest reviews for self-published titles. Submit your book to at least ten of them.

Hire a book marketing consultant to help you with the tasks you may not be feel comfortable working on yourself (i.e. developing a marketing plan, setting up book signings, etc.).

Previously, all of these services had to be ordered separately, but now all of them can be purchased together in a cost-effective package that “makes sense” of book marketing for self-publishing authors.

“With one easy order, any author can now save money and get the promotion of his or her book off to an explosive start,” said Outskirts Press Manager of Author Support, Elise Connors.

The Outskirts Press Book Blast Package is now available for all authors through the self-publisher’s web site www.outskirtspress.com/p/bookblast

Self publishing a book is an exciting undertaking. Because we understand the dedication that is required to write a quality book, we like to feature our top authors each week so that you can get to know a little bit more about them and their book. This week, we are featuring Mark Brian Swart’s Once More Into the Breach.

In his latest book, self-publishing Outskirts Press author, Mark Brian Swart, shows that he knows that reenacting is not just what you see on TV. It’s a reality all its own: a combination of high emotions, glowing triumphs, tremendous satisfaction, robust humor, always unbeatable camaraderie, and occasionally even a heartache or two. Most reenactors are superb historians, good friends, and excellent “Pards” – even though every once in a while there’s a moron or a bonehead in the crowd.

Just like real life.

Once More Into The Breach lays out – with no strings pulled – the Full Monty of Civil War reenacting so that the reader can find out the actual real-life story behind today’s reenacting of the War of the Rebellion. Becoming a Civil War reenactor begins with a little money, a love for history and a calling to preserve it, and finding a club that will take a “Fresh Fish” into its fold. After that, those that do all the “right stuff” are very successful and have one helluva great time. Those that do the “wrong stuff” get awfully lonely out there.

Once More Into The Breach takes the reader through the whole chronicle of how Civil War reenactors keep history alive, how they learn and teach the lessons of the past (and why!), how they have so much fun with some of the finest folks in the world, and the cherished memories that they acquire in the pursuit of preserving one of the most incredible events in American History.

And it’s a whole lot better than what you sometimes get out there in the other “real life.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Mark Brian Swart has always enjoyed history. He discovered reenacting back in 1998 when he began to explore “Living History” as a Civil War soldier. He began keeping a diary in his second year of reenacting and his thoughtful, amusing and candid comments were the catalyst for ONCE MORE INTO THE BREACH. Mark has realized that too little is known about Civil War reenacting, or about those who give so much and work so hard at it – both to Preserve History and to Honor the Brave Americans who gave their lives during its Creation. His book has been written to fill that gap.

Self publishing a book is an exciting undertaking. Because we understand the dedication that is required to write a quality book, we like to feature our top authors each week so that you can get to know a little bit more about them and their book. This week, we are featuring Jo Stone’s Murder by Another Name.

In her latest book, self-publishing Outskirts Press author, Jo Stone, uses her experience trying silicone gel breast implant cases to provide palpable reality to her novel’s courtroom suspense.

Pamela Lawson just wants her figure back after childbirth. A plastic surgeon and the industry spokesman for the new Mammselle foam coated implant, Dr. Dan MacNamara is sure the Mammselle implant is perfect for his patient, but neither he nor Pamela know that the manufacturer has concealed the results of secret internal studies that show all animals they tested have developed liver cancer.

Sherri Barker, a detail person for the manufacturer and Dr. MacNamara’s mistress, has just delivered to MacNamara the details of these studies when she is killed by a car bomb, and soon Dr. MacNamara’s life is also in danger from assassins hired by the silicone manufacturer and one of its corporate cohorts. Meanwhile a television reporter and an FDA investigator are preparing to air a special on the new implants.

Denver trial lawyer Janet Stephenson must navigate the minefields of corporate machination and attempted murder while trying to bring a grand jury indictment against the manufacturer for her client Pamela Lawson, now awaiting a liver transplant for her liver cancer. The worlds of criminal and civil law merge within the thrilling legal twists and turns of the ensuing courtroom drama as Janet seeks justice for the lives lost or ruined by corporate greed.

Self publishing a book is an exciting undertaking. Because we understand the dedication that is required to write a quality book, we like to feature our top authors each week so that you can get to know a little bit more about them and their book. This week, we are featuring Bill Bailey’s A Moment’s Matinee.

In her latest book, self-publishing Outskirts Press author, Bill Bailey’s book of poetry shows a skilled attention to the pleasurable rhythms of language he uses to confidently deliver his musings, insights and unique observations of concerns all readers can share.

His poem “Death” displays the easily measured beat of his lines and his own take on that one subject all readers will have considered at least at some point in their lives:

“It makes me know that just like fear and fame and wealth and class
My life’s a moment’s matinee – and then my time is past.”

Readers can also agree with his acknowledgment that for him “It’s in the Blood” – “To seek surcease in simile, /And press for hope in rhymes” – a line reminiscent of both the form and content of the Metaphysical Poets. His observations on the craft of the clown in “Clown – the Ultimate Artist” also nicely convey his love and appreciation of the aesthetic craft:

“What catharsis in the madness – what comfort in the craft –
What relief in time suspended – what healing in the laugh!”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Bill Bailey is a former English teacher and high school administrator. He is also a father and an advisor; but foremost he is a poet. He has written many poems over the years, and A Moment’s Matinee represents his lifelong writings.

Because we know how confusing it can be to pick the right marketing solution for your book, we publish our list of Top 10 Book Marketing Options each month to help you prioritize your book marketing efforts.

Self publishing a book is an exciting undertaking. Because we understand the dedication that is required to write a quality book, we like to feature our top authors each week so that you can get to know a little bit more about them and their book. This week, we are featuring G.H. Larrivee’s SonSet.

In his latest book, self-publishing Outskirts Press author, G.H. Larrivee Jr., looks without blinders at three generations of his family and discovers that the ongoing dysfunction in it – which he wryly dubs “The Larrivee Syndrome” – has been one that he could not overcome, even while trying for so long to prevent it’s affect on his son.

The history of Larrivee’s family has included abandonment and alcoholism in the distant past and bigotry and racism in the author’s more immediate childhood. “Mom never really knew where Dad was most of the time and she made herself insane over it,” Larrivee writes.

Larrivee resolves never to be that kind of father or husband.

Knowing too little of love, however, he finds himself at eighteen with a girl who “wasn’t my first choice,” but who was pregnant with his child. He marries her, she leaves him, and he is left to raise his son as a single parent. A second marriage, good in itself, brings conflict between a new stepson and his own offspring, still blaming his father for the “loss” of his mom.

Despite the author’s dream of mending their relationship, no reconciliation has been possible and Larrivee has had to learn how to survive the loss of a son, just as if he had died.

Larrivee acknowledges that his original bad mouthing of his son’s mother after she left him tainted the boy’s view of him as a father. His son, understandably, needed to defend his mother. That level of candor makes SonSet a unique autobiographical account that proves magnetic both in Larrivee’s self-deprecating humor and in his honest acceptance of a responsibility that many parents would not be capable of.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Mr. Larrivee is a retired fire department rescue company officer. He and his wife Carolyn left Rhode Island to live in the west many years ago. Currently they reside in Erda, Utah.

Tom Gauthier weaves another historically based tale of intrigue and action in his third novel, Mead’s Trek, published by Outskirts Press. In a tale taken from actual WW II events in a little known corner of Southeast Asia, hero Major Amos Mead, USMC, OSS agent, discovers that the U.S. Vice President, under the influence of his personal guru, is working with the Communists to undermine President Roosevelt.

The China/Burma/India theatre of operation in World War II was a confusing array of competing national interests and undefined battle fronts. The French were allied with the Japanese, the Americans worked with the Chinese, and all the while the old colonial imperialists maneuvered for power. Into this confusing mix arrives Major Amos Mead, fresh from his rescue mission of Orion’s Eye and newly infatuated with a woman destined to play an unusual role in his life.

Suddenly given an unexpected assignment with the OSS, Amos is thrust violently back into the war when his transport is shot from the sky, forcing a death filled trek behind enemy lines through Burma to China. During the trek, Mead is aided by groups of native freedom fighters who open his eyes to the intricacies of survival in a chaotic jungle – both a physical jungle and a jungle of intrigue. Focused on accomplishing his mission with new awareness, assumed friends become enemies and assumed enemies become friends as Mead finds himself amidst the deadly cabals of corrupt government officials, who may even include the Vice President of the United States.

“Gauthier weaves a compelling story of intrigue, action and romance,” writes Lis Wiehl, FOX News Legal Analyst and author of Face of Betrayal.

“Edge of your seat action…impressively accurate descriptions of the war,” says Judge Don Sokol, WW II B-17 pilot and decorated veteran of twenty-four missions over Germany, including the last raid on Berlin.

History is made to seem stranger than fiction in Mead’s Trek as readers are introduced to a chapter of history well known to those who were there, but little known to the rest of the world. After Roosevelt’s death, President Truman ignores the boots-on-the-ground reports of Mead and his real-life contemporaries and conspires with China, France and Britain to return Southeast Asia to their colonial yoke of virtual slavery, thus setting up the tragic war in Viet Nam twenty-five years later. Gauthier takes the actual events of the day and shows how a tragic war in Viet Nam could have been avoided if wiser heads had prevailed at the time.

About the author:

Tom Gauthier grew up in Santa Barbara, California, and after high school joined the U. S. Army and served as a combat intelligence analyst, later serving in the Air Force Reserve on a flight crew. These experiences and his time as a private pilot are evident in the action sequences in Mead’s Trek. He holds BS, MS, MBA and PsyD degrees, is retired from a corporate career, and serves on his local Airport Commission, the local Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, and as President of his school district’s Board of Trustees.

Tom is also the author of Code Name: Orion’s Eye and of A Voyage Beyond Reason, winner of a 2009 Writer’s Digest Award for Literary Fiction. He is currently working on the third book in the Major Amos Mead series, Die Liste, taking Mead into the post-war years, and the little known world of the Nazi war-criminals brought to the US in secret by the CIA.
