Self Publishing Your Way to Amazon’s Bestseller List

This whole week has been filled with exciting author success stories, like Wednesday’s story about 8-year-old Dalton James, who wrote, illustrated, and published two children’s books and now speaks to fellow elementary school students about how they can do the same…

… or Tuesday’s story about Gang Chen, who’s book held the #1 Amazon bestseller spot in two different categories and how he has earned over $100,000 in six months self-publishing with Outskirts Press…

… or yesterday’s story about Mary Singer Wick and her climb to #1 on Amazon.

How do these success stories happen? What leads to an Amazon bestseller?

There’s no doubt it takes some effort, and there are a variety of ways to accomplish your own personal goals.  But what remains consistent is that, without the proper know-how, it can certainly be challenging.

Such were the challenges bestselling author Sally Shields faced when her book The Daughter-in-Law Rules was published last year.  Since then, Ms. Shields…

  • Has been a guest on over 100 radio shows
  • Became a guest on Martha Stewart Whole Living Radio
  • Was endorsed by Laura Schelssinger
  • Was featured in Star Magazine’s Hot Sheet
  • Was featured on Fox and Friends
  • Has been a repeat guest on the nationally syndicated Television show, The Daily Buzz

  • And, of course, her book The Daughter-in-Law Rules also became a #1 bestseller on Amazon.

Sally Shields now helps other authors reach Amazon’s bestseller list. She can help you, too.

As a bestselling author and book marketing expert, Sally offers a program that trains, educates, and mentors authors on how they can reach Amazon’s bestseller list for their book(s), too.  She does this independently of Outskirts Press and Outskirts Press is not involved in her program or training materials in any way.

Here’s what Outskirts Press and Amazon bestselling author Mary Singer Wick has to say about Sally’s information: “Sally’s information has been a God-send to me! She has simplified the complicated world of book publishing and marketing. Sally’s hands-on approach provided me all the help I needed to successfully launch my book on Amazon. I highly recommend learning from Sally how you can become a bestselling author too!”

For a limited time, Sally Shields is offering fellow Outskirts Press authors a 60% discount on her Program. To learn more about her program and this exciting promotion, click here now.

The very first step toward becoming an Amazon bestselling author is publishing a book. Have an unpublished manuscript? Visit Outskirts Press first.

Self Publishing Book Marketing – Amazon Extreme

The Amazon Extreme Package is available for all authors, regardless of where their book was published

Save 25% on 3 amazing marketing tactics centered around Amazon.com

(plus receive a free copy of the bestselling book Sell Your Book on Amazon)

__________________________

1. Add a Kindle edition of your book to Amazon’s Kindle Store.

In order to demonstrate the benefits of the Amazon Kindle Submission service, you must first know what the Amazon Kindle is.

The Amazon Kindle is a revolutionary wireless reading device that allows its owner to instantly download books and newspapers. Only books that have been submitted to the Amazon Kindle via the required process and in the required format are available for Kindle readers to purchase and enjoy. Kindle editions of books appear on Amazon and in Amazon search listings just like any other format (such as a hardback edition).

There are several benefits to having your book available on Amazon Kindle.

1. The Amazon Kindle edition will appear in the search results, along with any other formats of your book (such as your paperback and/or hardback editions). This results in an increase of exposure for your book’s cover, which increases the chances of browsers clicking on your cover image, and coming that much closer to becoming a buyer.

2. Sales through the Amazon Kindle are not split with Outskirts Press. Just like with our hardcopy paperback and hardback books, we pay 100% author profits, and sales through the Kindle are ALL profit.

Of course, Amazon will still take their share, as they always do, but your profit will be directly deposited into your checking account by Amazon, without any involvement by (or portion for) Outskirts Press. In other words, your Kindle sales are YOUR Kindle sales.

3. Amazon customers and readers are growing every day. While the Kindle is a unique and revolutionary device designed to make reading more convenient, the majority of Amazon customers love actual BOOKS. A Kindle sale is an inexpensive way to offer your book to a potential reader; if they like it, they are more likely to purchase the paperback or hardback edition, too.

4. While all books are ideal for the Kindle, Kindle readers LOVE fiction.  If you are a fiction author looking for a way to “level the marketing playing field” with non-fiction, the Kindle is the answer!  There have been weeks and months in a row when the bestselling Outskirts Press books on Amazon have been Kindle editions of fiction books!

Here’s how the process works:

  1. Order the Amazon Kindle edition now by adding it to your shopping cart.  This can be purchased a-la-carte or with the Amazon Extreme package.
  2. Our Marketing Department will contact you via email and send you the necessary submission form.  Since your Kindle sales are directly deposited to your bank by Amazon, providing Amazon with the means to make that deposit is a requirement of submission.
  3. Once you have completed that form, send it back to us.
  4. That’s it! We’ll take care of the rest. Typically within 4 weeks, your Kindle edition will be online through Amazon.

How does pricing and commission work?

Option 1: Amazon pays 35% and the Kindle price can be whatever you want

Option 2: Amazon pays 70% but the Kindle price must be set between $2.99 and $9.99; and you must live in the United States

2. Add your book to Amazon Search Inside the Book

Do you feel that your book (which is available either exclusively or primarily online) isn’t reaching your target audience? Have you ever heard anyone say that it’s hard to make the decision to buy a book without taking a sneak peek and thumbing through the pages? Do you wonder why some books sell very well online while yours doesn’t? Well, Outskirts Press has the perfect solution!

Our Amazon Search Inside the Book marketing option (available to order a-la-carte or with the Amazon Extreme package) will allow you to take advantage of Amazon’s online equivalent to browsing a bookstore. Books that participate in this program feature a “Look Inside” icon over their Amazon cover image, which invites potential customers to electronically “flip” through a small section of the book. This increases the level of confidence a customer has in your book – most likely leading up to a higher volume of book sales. According to Amazon, books participating in this program enjoy significant sales improvement, on average, over books that do not.

When you participate in the Amazon Search Inside the Book program, Amazon digitally catalogs the text of your book – which may result in more accurate and targeted search results and recommendations. Ultimately, the more buyers who are exposed to your book, the greater the likelihood that you will sell more copies. Can you imagine the success you’ll have?

3. Add tags and your top 10 keywords to Amazon’s search engine

The optional Amazon Keyword Search Submission service can help your book appear higher in the Amazon search rankings for applicable keywords.

Customers who browse for new books on Amazon typically do not search by title or author. They search by keywords or phrases: subject-specific words that describe their interest. One goal in book marketing is to do whatever is possible to improve a book’s search results ranking for applicable keywords so that your book appears higher in the search results on Amazon.

The Amazon Keyword Submission option can help. Participating books are “tagged” with applicable terms and keywords. This encourages other visitors to your page to “tag” your book with the same keywords and phrases, which can give more “weight” to those terms in Amazon’s search results.

This option is available to order a-la-carte or with the Amazon Extreme package.

FREE BONUS:

Receive a free paperback copy of SELL YOUR BOOK ON AMAZON, Outskirts Press CEO Brent Sampson’s bestselling book, featuring top-secret tips guaranteed to increase your Amazon sales. The steps and tactics outlined in this book are the very same marketing efforts Sampson follows for his own book.

Among the tactics and steps suggested in the book are: participating in the Search Inside Program and adding keyword search submissions. You will notice that both of these steps are already included with this purchase of the Amazon Extreme Marketing package.

But there is so much more, like Listmania, Amazon Guides, Amapedia, Amazon Blogs, AmazonConnect, and much more. If you are not already proficient in Amazon listing enhancement, this book is a must-buy. And it’s free with the Amazon Extreme package.

Survivor contestant “Coach” subject of new self-published book

voyage_cover2Love him or hate him, there’s no doubt that “Coach” (aka Benjamin Wade) on this season’s edition of Survivor is a colorful character.   And now he is the subject of a new novel published by author Tom Gauthier through Outskirts Press.

Book Description:

A Voyage Beyond Reason is a true-life adventure. In 1996, twenty-four year-old Benjamin Wade sets out on a solo voyage in a tiny sea kayak. His goal lies 6,000 miles away – and deep within his own soul.

The chance discovery of his journals, buried on a Colombian cliff above the sea, uncovers a mystery which took many years to finally solve. His journals tell of misery and elation, of triumph and failure, of insight and insanity.

Does the man make the journey, or does the journey make the man?

Follow the tiny kayak, and follow the mind of a young man set on a goal that no amount of torture can dissuade him from reaching, on a journey that brings him face to face with himself.

Self Publishing Book Marketing – Amazon’s Search Inside

Amazon Search Inside the Book

This functionality on Amazon’s website is Amazon’s “online equivalent” to browsing a bookstore. Books that participate in the “Search Inside” program feature a “Look Inside” icon over their Amazon cover image, which invites potential customers to electronically “flip” through a small section of the book. Amazon claims that books participating in this program enjoy “significant” sales improvement, on average, over books that do not.

Equally important is the affect this participation has on your Amazon search results. More data about your book’s content is stored by Amazon’s computers, potentially resulting in more accurate and targeted search results and recommendations.

Outskirts Press published authors can easily and conveniently add this optional marketing service to their distribution from the Marketing Options screen of their author’s center.

What do Oprah Winfrey, Outskirts Press, and Self-Publishing Authors Have in Common?

self publishing with the kindleThey all love the Amazon Kindle! On Friday, October 24th Oprah Winfrey declared on her show that the Amazon Kindle was her new favorite gadget, and went on to say it would change everything.

Revolutionize, really.  According to the Association of American Publishers, the sale of e-books has grown nearly 56% since 2002. The Kindle, which was announced with much fanfare in 2007, is an integral part of this trend. Unlike previous iterations of “ebook readers,” the Amazon Kindle is easy to operate, comfortable to use, and has many attractive consumer options.

Authors recognize the benefits and the potential of the Kindle, too. “Oprah’s endorsement of the Kindle is going to send sales of the device skyrocketing,” stated Outskirts Press CEO Brent Sampson. “Always on the cutting-edge of the industry, Outskirts Press is excited to introduce our Amazon Kindle Submission Service, which helps our published authors get their ebooks available on the Kindle in time to reap the benefits from this buzz.”

This new marketing option for Outskirts Press authors makes it remarkably easy for authors to present their work in digital format, which customers can then download to the Kindle, Amazon’s popular electronic reading device. The Amazon Kindle edition then appears in Amazon’s search results (along with any other formats such as paperback or hardback editions), resulting in increased exposure of the book’s cover. This brings the book browser that much closer to becoming a book buyer.

Sell Your Book on Amazon

One of the most important elements to selling your book on Amazon is having a fantastic book sales page on Amazon. The book sales page is the production information page, or detail page. It is the page on Amazon devoted to providing information about your book and motivating a customer to buy it. As closely as possible, your Amazon sales page should resemble any other webpage you may have that is devoted to selling your book. After all, if you have worked hard to develop strong sales copy, you should use it in multiple places.

Amazon’s description field has a character limitation of 4,000 characters, so you should draft your online description (otherwise referred to an a distributor’s annotation) so that it is as close to 4,000 words as possible. People like HAVING access to detailed information, even if they never read it. Then, use that same information on your author webpage or somewhere within the body of your Enhanced Author Website.

Directly below is an example of the content Outskirts Press CEO Brent Sampson has on his author’s webpage for one of his books, Sell Your Book on Amazon. Then, compare it with the content on the Amazon version. They both feature an extensive description of the book that focuses on the BENEFITS for the reader. They both include a book video. (For more details about having a book video created for your book, click here and for details about adding your book video to Amazon, click here.)So You’d Like to… Become An Amazon Bestseller!

Are you holding a manuscript in your hand that you wish Amazon was selling? Or do you already have a book on Amazon that you wish was selling better? In either case, Sell Your Book on Amazon will help you.

You will experience what I have seen first-hand as the president of Outskirts Press – that marketing success on Amazon can be the difference between hundreds and tens-of-thousands of dollars a month.

You will learn why self-publishing guru Dan Poynter says, “Bookstores are a lousy place to sell books.” In his foreword, he says publishing as if it is still the 20th century is for historians. Publishing in this new millennium is for writers. Are you a writer or historian? Sell Your Book on Amazon shows you how to publish and market your book in the 21st Century.

Amazon provides a phenomenal and gigantic (global) platform from which to sell your book. In fact, the opportunities may seem almost too colossal! But now, Sell Your Book on Amazon unveils it all for the first time. This book provides an easy-to-understand approach to increase your book sales on Amazon by exploring the steps you can take immediately.

As Penny C. Sansevieri of Author Marketing Experts says, “Finally! A book that helps you demystify Amazon. If you have a book to sell, you simply must own Sell Your Book on Amazon.”

Why is increasing a book’s exposure important? Because readers have to learn about your book before they can buy it. Authors who know how to use Amazon’s own system and algorithms to their advantage sell more books simply because more people learn about their books (and therefore buy them!). Once a book finds success on Amazon, it appears higher in the search results, leading to MORE exposure and more sales, and so on. It’s the Amazon “virtuous circle” and the key to unlocking that brass ring is in your hands.

Introducing the exclusive
NEW TACTIC RANKING SYSTEM!

Marketing tactics are only as valuable as the profits they generate. Sell Your Book on Amazon ranks every technique so you can quickly and efficiently locate the marketing secrets that will lead to superior results:

***** Highly recommended. Receive the greatest exposure compared to time spent.

**** Very recommended. An acceptable investment is required for a profitable return.

*** Somewhat recommended. Check your profit margin. The expenditure may exceed the benefit.

Do you know how to beat Amazon at their own game? Do you know how Amazon Marketplace listings can offer “55 used copies” of your book when you haven’t even sold that many? Do you know how to remove a 1-star review from your listing and how to get more 5-star reviews?

This book tells you how to do it all, plus so much more. It’s a tremendous value with a wealth of information at your fingertips. Start increasing your book sales instantly by ordering Sell Your Book on Amazon today.
