Tomorrow is Social Media Day!

Social media is a trend that’s been around for a while – as a matter of fact, if you use social media at all, you probably only vaguely remember the time when there was no such thing. It all started with the basic concept of online chatting. From chatrooms evolved several “hub” websites where people could connect to others who share similar interests (or not).

We encourage all authors to make a good effort on social media/social networking sites. There are many general ones to choose from – including: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIN, etc. All of these sites can appeal to all. However, there are also topical, shared interest, etc. networks available online. If you need help getting involved, you may consider hiring a Personal Marketing Assistant.

Additionally, the below books are the Top 5 (in alphabetical order) geared toward improving your online presence — both in social media and otherwise:

New Marketing Option for Self-Publishing Authors: ForeWord Clarion Guaranteed Book Review

New Marketing Option for Self-Publishing Authors: ForeWord Clarion Guaranteed Book Review

Obtaining book reviews is an important part of your overall book promotion strategy. A positive review from an unbiased reader can often help boost the sales of a book. A book review can help a reader make a decision on one book over another. As important as these reviews are, many books receive either very few or no reviews. As a self-publishing author, how often have you submitted your book to a blogger or other reviewer only to receive no response in return? Or worse yet, have you dreaded even the thought of submitting your book to reviewers?

ForeWord Clarion Guaranteed Book ReviewWhat if you could submit your book for review and actually receive a response — and in a timely fashion? Now Outskirts Press self-publishing authors can now take advantage of our ForeWord Clarion Guaranteed Book Review option. This service allows you to get an unbiased and (most importantly) guaranteed review of your book. You can be confident that the review you receive will be both honest and credible. Also, you know that your book will be reviewed and you won’t have to wait several months like with other reviewers (authors typically receive their review in about ten weeks).

The reviews are written by a professional Clarion reviewer, typically consist of about 200-300 words, and are 100% honest. That means that you could possibly receive a negative review. However, even negative reviews contain elements that can be extracted for marketing purposes and can even be used to improve upon your writing for your next book.

Self-Publishing Book Spotlight: Mountain Dragon: Aspiration by Bradley Clemmons

Self publishing a book is an exciting undertaking. Because we understand the dedication that is required to write a quality book, we like to feature our top authors each week so that you can get to know a little bit more about them and their book. This week, we are featuring Bradley Clemmons’ Mountain Dragon: Aspiration.

In his latest book, self-publishing Outskirts Press author, Bradley Clemmons, spans generations and weaves spirituality, magic, karma and the bonds of love in a tale of high adventure about an enlightened female warrior who vanquishes and then redeems her enemies.

The world is in chaos. Enemies threaten the Middle Kingdom from all sides after a dark and evil force with overwhelming power shatters the political hopes of two nations. One little child survives with the potential and the strength to make all warring factions in the region take notice.

This young sorceress bears a potent and mysterious gift and she masters not only the worldly endeavors necessary to stem the tide of anarchy, but she also uses the great wisdom and love she has gained to redeem her adversaries and offer the world the most precious of gifts.

Clemmons’ two volume Mountain Dragon work is a tale reminiscent of the great heroes and masters, but for the first time these mythic attributes are fully embodied by a woman.

According to earlier myth, the young Eastern princess Yeshe Dawa told monks who suggested she pray to be born a man in her next life, only “weak minded worldlings” see gender as a barrier to enlightenment. Author Clemmons presents a fully realized myth of enlightened femininity which can now resonate with the more inclusive spiritual zeitgeist of the 21st century.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Bradley Clemmons has been a student and lay practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism under the guidance of Khyabje Tarthang Tulku, Rinpoche, for over 35 years. He and his wife live in northern California.

Here is one of the bestselling authors for May 2011:

Cancer – It’s a Good Thing I Got It ! by David A. Koop

The Life Story of a Very Lucky Man

David Koop had it all—a storied business career, beautiful son, and prospects as far as the eye could see. Then a surprise cancer diagnosis turned his life upside down. It was osteo sarcoma—a form of bone cancer—and it was growing on his spine. Doctors told him to get his affairs in order. More than three years later, Koop continues to beat the odds. Cancer: It’s a Good Thing I Got It! is his eye-opening account of a remarkable journey through hospitals, treatments, friendships and emotions as he struggles to maintain a positive attitude and will to live. In this frank and uncensored look at one man’s battle with cancer, Koop reflects on his life before and after the diagnosis. The surprising conclusion will leave you awed at the strength of the human spirit: far from a death sentence, the medical woes unleash a powerful self-assessment that leads Koop to a whole new sense of purpose—and the love he has sought all his life.

_____________________________________________________________________

We were lucky enough for David to stop by and answer a few questions about his book and the Outskirts Press publishing experience.

OP: What made you decide that self-publishing would be the best way to publish your book?

“When I decided to write a book I did a lot of research. I was very shocked to find out how little of the book price ends up in the pocket of the Author who actually wrote the book. As a key note speaker I have a marketing platform in place. Self-Publishing was the only way to go for me, not only from a monetary perspective but also in regards to control of the content as well.”

OP: Why did you decide to publish with Outskirts Press?

“I researched the top self-publishing companies and I was impressed by the way Outskirts Press does business. The team approach, the experience that they bring to the table and the actual financial division provides the Author what they need in the way of services at a very reasonable cost.”

OP: Can you share a bit about your book promotion strategy?

“We started marketing this book, Cancer It’s a Good Thing I Got It The Life Story of a Very Lucky Man about three months ahead of our estimated publication date. I shared a little of the book in my keynote speeches and in the workshops that my wife and I offer. At the end of each we made the yet to be published book for sale at a 20% early order price. At thirty days out we sent press release to the local media and book some talk radio spots and received notices in the newspapers in the area. At two weeks out from the launch we did a full-blown Press Release with our publicist, Dan Janal and the story of our book release celebration was picked up by over 52,000 media sites! Our next step is a joint venture partnership we are working on with a couple dozen Internet companies. The goal of which is to push the book onto Amazon’s bestseller list.”

OP: Describe your book in 140 characters or less.

Personal memoir, an uncensored look at life before and after a Cancer battle with surprising conclusion leaving you with a new life purpose.”

OP: How long did it take you to write your book?

“Funny you should ask, I thought I could pound it out in three or four months. Have you heard that joke, “If you want to hear God laugh tell him your plans” Well he was laughing for two years while I struggled to complete my book.”

OP: Are you planning to publish any other books?

“Yes I am working on two other books now in between speaking and signings for my current book.”
