Self Publishing Book Spotlight: The Yellow Hummer

A broken Christmas, a saddened child and a heartbroken grandmother are the elements of this touching story for beginning readers which shows that people are always more important than things.

Ivet Graham-Morgan’s children’s story, The Yellow Hummer, published by Outskirts Press, counteracts the trend toward self-absorption in today’s society by showing how a four year old boy overcomes his own loss from a broken Christmas present and selflessly comforts his grandmother, who accidentally had damaged the yellow Hummer toy.

Set in a non-traditional home of a son, a working mother, a grandmother and no father, The Yellow Hummer tells the story of four-year-old Jordan, whose grandmother accidentally ruins his bright new Christmas toy. After crying himself to sleep that night, cuddling the damaged toy, he awakes to go and find his grandmother and to show her the empathy, respect, buoyancy and love that he knows will help lift the remorse she feels.

Young Jordan is able to look past himself as he realizes his grandmother’s feelings are more important than his yellow Hummer, a realization too rare, author Graham-Morgan notes, in today’s society of self-absorbed, materialistic Bernie Madoffs.

This charmingly illustrated, full color book is not just a Christmas story by circumstance; it also transcends the materiality of that season and conveys to its young readers and listeners the truly selfless spirit at the heart of that holiday.

“In a society dominated by self-centeredness, we need to help our children develop positive character traits,” says author Ivet Graham-Morgan.

The Yellow Hummer does that.

About the Author:

Ivet Graham-Morgan has had fulfilling careers in education, banking and law enforcement; but she has always been a writer at heart. A single parent, she had to wait until her sunset years to find the luxury of free time to follow that path. Now, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, she has returned to her first love, writing. She especially enjoys writing stories for her grandchildren.

Guest Post: Why You Should Consider Becoming an Amazon Bestseller

This guest post was provided by Outskirts Press Personal Marketing Assistant, Sally Shields.

Many of you either have a great idea for a book, or you’ve already written one.  You may be in the process of self-publishing or have a few hundred of them boxed up in your basement or garage, or sitting on Amazon, ranked in the millions. You’ve given away a few copies to your family and friends.  Very nice. Now what?

One strategy is to use Amazon and best seller status to sell more of those books and I’m going to tell you about some the steps I took to get there so that you can apply them to your book.

Let me outline some of the benefits to an Amazon.com bestseller campaign.

It builds credibility and prestige. Being published alone, is a very substantial thing in people’s eyes because they realize it takes major commitment and dedication to finish, but being a bestseller gives you extra credibility.

When your book is a national bestseller, it generates more interest in your book and boosts its sales.

When your book makes it to the bestseller list, influential members of the book world take notice. The media notices, as do industry insiders such as literary agents, book editors, and foreign rights buyers. The media loves to use that credential; it gets attached to your name, ‘bestselling author Sally Shields.”

It will help you acquire customers, and create hi-favorability among them.  You are now perceived as an expert and can then charge more for your services.

You have a much easier time selling your book to organizations and corporations in bulk.

You can become a speaker!  There are countless organizations who are looking for speakers everyday and you are much more likely to get booked if you have a bestseller status.

So, how does this all work?

In short, the formula involves getting people with big email lists to send out an announcement asking people to buy your book on a given day at Amazon. This method isn’t “spamming” because only “opt-in” email lists are used.

To motivate people to purchase the book, you promise them a lot of digitally-downloadable “bonus gifts” for when they submitted their Amazon email receipt. For instance, buy a $20 book and you could get $500 of more of extra bonusesa tremendous incentive to buy the book. Even better, because the formula uses email, it costs almost nothing to promote the book!Contrary to what you may believe, to launch your own successful online email campaign

You do NOT need any previous online or marketing experience

You do NOT need to personally be a web designer,

You do NOT need your own mailing list

You do NOT need a fortune in cash because this formula uses email marketing it’s almost free to implement)

You do NOT need to leave the comfort of your home office

What you DO NEED is the right guidance from someone who has launched a successful best seller online email campaign AND experienced the high level of success that you desire.

Amazingly enough, online marketing is likely one of the most effective methods for marketing books today … WHEN it is done right.  For more information on how to run your own Amazon.com bestseller campaign, please visit: www.sallyshields.com/outskirtspress for more details.

Self Publishing Book Spotlight: The Script-Chores

In his first volume of poetry Chris Apoder O’Riordan-Adjah provides a collection of verse written to please both the veteran poetry lover and the newcomer to poetry alike. The poet draws from his diverse and passionate experience to create a spirit-work for all to enjoy.

In The Script-Chores, published by Outskirts Press, Poet Chris Apoder O’Riordan-Adjah acknowledges his gratitude to God and tells of his responsibility — his “chore” — to share his personal message — his “script” — of having overcome all challenges and obstacles through the Lord.

Proud to call himself the Lord’s “On Call” servant, the poet began an unexpected love for poetry in the 1990’s when he found himself in the Diaspora and started to record his tribulations in a new world. “I had in the past underestimated the power of poetry,” he says. “I started paying closer attention to poets and to what they had to say and went ‘Whoa!’”

Particularly enamored of the poetry of Maya Angelou, O’Riordan-Adjah realized what he had already been working on as his “Hope Notes” shared an intention with Angelou’s writings, and he began to transform these recordings of his experience into the series of poems which now compose The Script-Chores.

With this collection of hopeful, humorous and heartwarming poetry, O’Riordan-Adjah hopes to inspire readers through the lessons of his own life story and to provide them with poems that are more than a one time read, much like the Scriptures themselves, which one can go back to time after time to garner more meaning.

The Script-Chores is available on-line in paperback through Amazon, Barnes and Noble and www.addjahlife.com and at www.outskirtspress.com/buybooks for a maximum trade discount in quantities of ten or more.

About the Author:

Chris Apoder O’Riordan-Adjah was born in Berlin, raised in Ghana, and has now spent more than fifteen years in the United States. He is married to the beautiful Simonetta, who was born in Jamaica. As his passion for poetry grew and as he kept listening to the constant cry of a still small voice for him to compile all of his work, he finally enrolled in the Long Ridge Writers’ Group, obtained his diploma, and started submitting his poems to the International Library of Poetry.
